After what was possibly one of my scariest road drives on Wednesday eve if the downpour we had. Currently on Toyo 888 but I am going to fit road tyres to the speedlines and put the 888 onto a set of trackday wheel.

Go for :

265/35/18
225/40/18

Was going to get a quote on Bridgestones unless someone says otherwise.

Interesting, Toyos are quite good for a trackday tyre in deep water, but agree road tyres should be better.

Bridgestone S02 work well for me on the RS, also tried a set of Conti Sport contact, which lasted well, perhaps a touch less sporting than the Bridgestone, the Bridgestone seemed reasonable for a road tyre on track to me?

Agree on standard sizes, good feel as maker intended, I see no reason to for wider fitment on the road myself.

Maybe too far for you, but Elite tyres at Rainham Essex and Mannings Heath Sussex have been competitive of S02 pricing.
 
For trackdays I found Toyos great and used 285/30s at the back.

On the road less attractive as they "hum" in a way that until you get used to it makes you think the wheel bearings are stuffed!

On the road I used Bridgestone SO2s; standard size.

Recently I have started to use Falken 451s on road and trackday cars. No they don't have the grip of trackday tyres but as I am not racing anyone I am not bothered.

The upside is they are a well made tyre, made in Japan, which have good grip and feel and are extrordinarily cheap! I use Camskills.

The real bonus is that the car moves around more and so is great fun.

On the road they are quiet and don't make the car sniff out hedges whenever there is the slightest unevenness or camber!
 
I hated my SO2's so much that I sold them, (yes I did try hard to scuff 'em in). I know that among the RS fraternity I am not alone in this.
Whichever road tyre you go for you will notice a huge improvement over your 888's on the road with drastically reduced noise and far better comfort/compliance which means better speed on all but the smoothest roads.
Modern tyres have moved on and either Michelin Pilot Sports ( not Cups for road) or especially Goodyear Eagle Fi Assymetrico's are ideal for your RS and way better than the legendry SO2's
 
Sure tyres have moved on....it's not as if an S02 is unsafe, sometimes more modern tyres do not necessarily suit a classic type drive. Obviously this is subjective.
 
Will a 993RS ever be a daily driver ?

I think it is great on PS Cups --- where the 964RS does seem to suit Toyos which are much better in rain that the PS Cups which are, awful.

I put Conti Sports onto my GT3 MkI which is the nearest I have to a daily drive Porker.

I do have a nice set of SO2's but they are 7 years old and felt very hard to me. The recent Conti Sports are much much better ....

But the later SO2 also has a new tread pattern --- I have a single new 18" 265 / 35, new tread pattern, --- don't ask !
 
Drove one of mine daily for 4 years .

Ben wud now if the car were nt here and hes in Bermuda!
 
I know of a 993RS in France which has 250k clicks on it, but mine with 82k miles on it and a factory run-in replacement for the development engine at 15k miles, may now be considered high of collectible mileage ?

Since I drive 30,000 miles a year --- and the collectibles insurance maxes at 5k per annum, that's why I suggest it's not a daily driver. Not that it can't be, it certainly can .... [;)]
 
Never covered ur anual mileage , maybe 9/10000,lucky enough to have a couple of other cars at that time ......but the rs was too young to get limited mileage Classic cover .........only cost abt £35k with similer mileage on the clock so ins cost pretty reasonable ....................i still reckon one of the best all round 911 s i ve owned however i judge it ..................
 
I would agree.

When I first got it I couldn't see much of a difference from the 964RS --- my N-GT being much more raw and "emotional".

But the revised rear suspension (setting in place new technology for all 911's since to follow) really makes the best of PS Cups over Toyos --- and in a much calmer way the car is significantly faster than the 964RS, even taking account of the slightly better performance of PS Cups --- or maybe being able to take account of the better performance and maximise this ??

I have data logged at Shell Oils (at Oulton -- the banked hairpin) --- and have 1.3g lateral on a 964RS N-GT on 17" Toyo 888's and 1.5g lateral on the 993RS running 18" P-S Cups ...

Different days, so not truly scientific, but an indication --- with Hugh in the car !!

I have a 993 RS since 2008 and i made already 15 000 kms in the car. The tires that i have its the continental sportcontact2.
Now i need to change the rear tires or all if i change to different type.
What is the best options to this car?

I have a brand new set of Bridgestones for sale £600 (approx 25 miles done on them and prefer to stick with the 888 after all)
 
I also found 25 miles to be more than enough on recent SO2's altough I persisted with them for longer including a nervy trackday at Donington. Tyres always felt greasy and grip would disappear alarmingly with little or no warning or feel. I know that people have generally loved these tyres, I can only assume that more recent, re-introduced batches have changed? For what it's worth I went back to Pirelli P zero's for road use (and wet track days) where grip is ok but feel is really good and confidence high. They are a good, compliant and comfy road tyre.
