Question...

has anyone run NON N rated tyres on their 996?

is it really a scam that the tyres were homologated by porsche and that they could wreck the balance and handling?

I have conti Sports at moment but I have used Falken FK 451 and Toyo Proxes to great a plomb in the past.

would appreciate feedback on this.

I have been told non N rated will invalidate the warranty....which does not surprise me!!

cheers

I'd read it to mean that running NON- N rated tyres on a Porsche would mean fitting tyres not to the manufacturers specification... whether thats the same as not fit for purpose, which could possibly invalidate Insurance, let alone warranty...well thats another issue..

I have a 996 turbo and run the Brigestone, as I have just replaced the rears they were £165 each fitted (plus vat)which I didn't feel was too bad. The fronts are slightly less. They are N rated but I have had the p-zero's in the past which gave an anoying tyre rumble at 40 mph on some surfaces so I wouldn't get these. The brigestone give a ride that is so much quieter, smoother and softer (if you like that sort of thing). I certainly will get another set. They don't wear too badly either.

If you drive the car like a Micra - go ahead and play games with the tyres. If you drive it like a Porsche owner then you are really being damn silly for a few £££s. When the handling goes to hell on a wet corner at 120mph then you'll know the answer to your question.

oops, I forgot to mention it corners like it's on rails with the softer bridgestone's, although that could be something to do with the set up too.

when was the last time you were doing 120 mph on a wet corner??

maybe coming through bridge at silverstone but not on my local roads in twickenham!!

I have looked into this alot and going to stick with N rated tyres depsite the lack of choice.

will get some sprare rims with decent sports sticky tyres for track and fast road work

I've been round a wet corner at 100 ..... [8D]

I forget when and where, though .... given the speed I guess I must have been in Germany [;)]
