Tyres (again!)

Had the joy of a motorway puncture this afternoon. Must have been some debris as another car was on the hard shoulder at the same spot I pulled over. My rear tyres are just about ready for replacement anyway and the damaged (well beyond repair) tyre is the front offside so, being realistic, I need 4.

My car has Michelin Pilot Sports all round which I have been pleased with and are generally endorsed on this forum. However, the rears have lasted 10,000 miles which, frankly, doesn't impress. I am not generally hard on tyres, don't use the car for track days and don't knowingly explore the outer limits of the car's handling.

Can anyone recommend a tyre which won't disappoint but has a better life expectancy than the Michelins? I have 18" Carrera alloys.

Happy Christmas!

Just bought a new set of 18" ContiSports from Bracknell Tyres (set of 4 for £500). Appreciably you're evidently a bit far to make that a worthwhile trip. Having said that, I replaced a set of N-rated Dunlops. The rears had done 20000 miles and the fronts more than 25000 miles - and I don't drive especially steadily.

Hi Rob. I don't think that you'll ever better Michelin Pilots for durability. 10,000 on the rear is not that bad!

Also, I don't think that you can say "hard-on" on this forum.

Adrian.

but it's ok to say I have 18 inches? !!!

4 new pilot sports fitted and balanced for £600 inc VAT which I thought was ok. National Tyres, Preston as previously recommended by Peter Bull. Red carpet treatment on Christmas Eve.

10,000miles on rears is fantastic! I have been running Pirelli's and only got 5000 miles out of the rears.

That's a very good price, I just put 2 new rears on and most places I rang or looked at on the web wanted £230 each for a rear tyre (285/30/18 93 ZR N1 Pilot Sport)

In the end I bought localy from Apex Tyres in Peterborough who did 2 rears fitted for £418 inclusive.

I didn't get a local quote for the fronts (225/40/18 88 ZR N1 Pilot Sport) but I'd expect them to come out at around £130 each.

P.S. I also got 10,000 out of the old ones

Pleased to help out Rob - they know how fussy I am - so I guess they looked after you well.

Seems a great price for a set of 4. Well done.

Thanks Peter. The chap I dealt with certainly remembered you and seemed pleased that you had recommended them on this site. All the best for the New Year.

That's a good price. I have done 12,000 miles on mine so far and plenty of tread left, over 5mm on front and 4.5 mm on rears.
