Tyres - again !

Having just been to my tyre dealer, to find that a number of my tyres need replacing (OK, all of them !), and, having been told that a replacement set of P7000 might get a bit dear (and I really do like them), I noticed that he had Avon ZZ3, for somewhat less. Has anyone used these on a 3.2 ? If so, are they any good ?
Also, now that PZeros are cheaper (not the new Rosso (sic), but the previous set),
are they worth it, and, having read somewhere that different types fit on front and rear (true ?), what combination to use ?

And, generally, what are your experiences with different tyre types ona 3.2 ?

John - Richard Bernau posted a very comprehensive note on this subject back on 20 March, which I read yesterday. If you change " display topics" to " 90 days" you should find it on P2. Hope this helps.

I' ve put some toyo' s on mine about a month ago , they seem to be very good and also saved me a few hundred pounds.
 
As above see richards post, and dont get the avons, they are terrible. I had them on my 3.2 when I bought it, now on Michelin. The Avons were a very hard trye, and not very good in the wet.

The saga continues.

My local man (who, for some reason, calls me sir !) can get me Pilot Sports and PZeros for my 3.2. The general questions are:-

1. Assymetrical all round - is this the way to go, or should there be directional on the front (which he can' t find) ? Does it make a difference on the road ?
2. Pilort Sports - he said were very good, but soft, with a high wear rate. Is this true ? More/less than PZero ?
3. What are the Pzero Nero like ?

I don' t care about N rated tyres, particularly on an ' E' plate car. I am also now having a problem getting 245/45/16 tyres for the rear (not a turbo/supersport, but as much power as a turbo, hence the big tyres). They seem to want to sell these for 17 inch and above, and I want to keep my original Fuchs.

There may be more questions later, so be warned !

Looking at your questions:

1. Original P0s are assymetrical. Later a Direczionale tyre was offered in limited sizes for the front (to be used with original P0 rears) - picture attached. The benefit is greater resistance to hydroplaning due to better water disbursement (apparently).

2. Pilot Sports are presumably very good looking at how many high performance cars have them fitted as standard. They are Michelin' s latest and greatest. I doubt they are softer than a a P0, as the P0 was reputedly the softest non R-compound tyre you could buy. I suspect both will wear quickly.

3. P0 Nero is an updated P0 - so it should be better. It may be a little less hardcore though (just like the SO3 Bridgestone is less hardcore than the SO2) and more mass market appeal - I don' t know. It looks a bit weird - I will try to find a picture. It is probably very expensive?

You should have no problem with the 245/45/16 size (maybe it is just those brands). Ask your local guy if he can get a Toyo T1S in your sizes. That is a great tyre at a great price. I know that Simon has them in those sizes.

www.tirerack.com shows both the P0 and the Pilot Sport available in your 245/45/16 sizes (it is a US site though). The P0 Nero is not available in that size - but I found a picture.

Ta for the info - the Pirelli site does imply that the Neros are less hard core.

I don' t actually need hard core tyres, but they do seem to have come down in price to the level of ' normal' tyres, hence my interest.

I like the idea of a tyre that shifts a lot of water, as the ones I have now seem really good at it, and very reassuring to drive in the wet.

I will ask about the Toyo.
