Tyres- an old chestnut

I would appreciate any advice / opinions from members.

My car, 2012 Turbo Cab on 19"centre lock wheels will need tyres this year, it is currently on PS2. My prevous cars have all been on Michelin and I have been very happy with them.

it seems the only N rated Michelin in 235/35 (F) and 305/30 (R) is PS2. Whilst not unhappy I would like to consider a more recently developed tyre.

Does any know if Michelin will N rate the PS4S, Michelin advised that the correct, non N, rated sizes will be available in March. They could not advise whether the size would be rated.

I would also appreciate thoughts on other manufacturers or if I should stick to PS2.

Thanks.

I have just changed to Michelin PS2 from Bridgestone's. Always been happy with Michelins and as it's only the PS2 that is Porsche rated I am happy with that.

I think you've answered your own question really Brian and asking for others opinions may confuse the matter?

Only you've mentioned your previous cars have been Michelin, and that you've been happy with them but your considering an upgrade or a
recently developed tyre?

The "N" system only changes when Porsche deem it needs to, So without checking the current number on your two sizes 235/35 & 305/30 there's a strong possibility they will not be the first design N0, but N1? or N2 etc..or sometimes they don't change them because there's no need.

I'm not 100% sure but I didn't think PS3 Michelin's came as original equipment on any Porsche's ? they were Michelins Sport tyre now it's the PS4
unyet PS3's are still made as are a select few PS2's and especially N rated. Because they are a specially developed tested tyre and you can imagine once
Porsche have decided what construction and compound to use from many tested there really is not need to change it as often as the Tyre companies change different flavours and models to keep the retail customers attention to buy the latest thing.

I personally think too many products are superceeded too quickly.

If you did change and try a Bridgestone set, the car would not Ride as Smooth..
Bridgestone use a very stiff sidewall and a soft compound (good for the dry and track days!) Michelin use a softer Sidewall and Harder compound (Better for traction dry and wet, ride quality and longevity) especially good with all that torque you have!

I'm a total Michelin Fan, and have owned 10 Porsche's in the last 15 years and I'm currently using PS3's on my 2.7 924 and Michelin Energy saver+ on my 2.0 daily driver Focus! between them both I do about 12,000 a year and come rain or shine they have never failed to yield confidence in all conditions.

Thanks all for your responses.

Roger, you are right in thinking that my inclination is to stay with PS2, I was keen to find out if there is strong support for an alternative.

Clive, thanks for the link to other threads, I have read them with interest and will probably stay with the PS2 unless the picture is differnt in a couple of months time, not likely given the commitment you were given at FoS...

Not seen Michelins on any new showroom cars in the sevens months that I have been an owner / lurker; cars are on Pirelli`s with SUV`s on Yokohama`s.

Maybe there is a `falling out` between them ?

Porsche at Tonbridge told me that there the only difference accrding to their official literature on Pirelli and Michelin is that the Michelins have slightly better fuel economy.
My C4s has Bridgestones on it, they need replacing shortly and I'm going for Pirelli. I've been quoted £725 for a complete set. Which I can't better anywhere.

Instead of putting PS2 on mine I have bitten the bullet and gone for PS4S all round. They are not N rated but I haven't got a warranty so prefer to go with a newer tyre that is getting very good press/test results. On another forum there is quite a lot of negative feedback on the Pirellis.

Also, from a quick scout on pricing I have seen the PS4S is selling cheaper than the PS2 and PSS.

As 'N' rating isn't a consideration, I think I would have been tempted to go for PSS, but you should be very happy with your choice. Give it a couple thousand miles and let us know how you're getting on with them. [:)]
Regards,
Clive

All and any Michelin Tyre is a great product.
Their latest Sport Tyre for any car is the PS4, and their track day / roadie the Supersport.

Both which I can believe are sold cheaper than the PS2 N rated Tyres because they have not been specifically engineered
by Stuttgart specifically for Porsche models.

Yes, it's early days to provide feedback on them, they were only fitted at lunchtime.

And to be honest I don't like pushing it too hard on these greasy roads.

Is the quote for Pirellis from OPC Tonbridge, and I assume including the PCGB discount?
