Tyres for '71 2.2E

Hi

I'm looking to replace the tyres on my '71 2.2E. I have Fuchs wheels, with rims for tubed.

The car currently has some very old 205 Firestones. I think I will go to 185 or 195s to be more in keeping.

I'm looking for some decent modern rubber to give me a balance of good handling at a reasonable price.

Pirelli P6000s have been suggested by a marque specialist, does anyone have any other views?

Thanks in advance

John

I have 195/65 x 15 P6000 on my current '69T and I had them on my '67S.
I'm more than happy with them.

Hi John,

I personally prefer the period look and so use Avon CR6ZZ's - they're a rally tyre and have amazing grip..... when they're warmed up.

Try Longstone Tyres for pricing and advice - I've used them for years. Link here: http://www.longstonetyres.co.uk/

Hope this helps

I also would reccomend the Pirelli P6000 in 195x65x15 size. They are easy to live with they are readily available and generally at a good price, oh and they grip very well in wet and in the dry..

Hi , just to confirm what others have said , I have a 69 911E fitted with 15x6 fronts and 15x7 rears on original Fuchs (7Rs at rear) without retaining bead so have to fit tubed tyres on those 1969/70 wheels.
Tyre of choice is the Pirelli P6000 although I'm not sure if that type has been replaced by P7. NB dont go lower than a 60 profile when using tubes.

I also have a set of later wheels suitable for tubeless tyres which I fit for trackdays. The important thing here is retaining the tall section to keep the handling 'early 911' , but having a sticky tyre with more grip , and in my case road legal so can drive to track. The tyres fitted for this application are Avon CR6ZZ. The wheels are Fuchs 15x6 fronts 1974 date stamp and Compomotive Dage split rim rears 15x7.

Here are some pics of the Pirelli and Avon for comparison

Next Avon 215/60 rear

Then Pirelli 185/65 front

Finally Avon 185/70 front

PS pics are fesh today as had to swap wheels for the PCGB Goodwood trackday on Wednesday 27 April [:D]

Thanks everyone for confirming the choice! I think I'll go with the P6000s as my everyday choice, but remember the Avons if I want a more period rally look & feel.

Cheers
John
