tyres for road/track days

Can anyone recommend new tyres for my 993 C4 (unmodified std suspension)? Used mainly at weekends (no communting), plus 5 trackdays a year, but has to be driveable in the wet, although I don't mind being extra cautious. Currently has ContiSportContacts fitted which seem OK but the treadblocks 'smear' on trackdays which worries me. I'm not a great driver so don't want anything that are too likely to 'catch me out'. Is there a better choice or should I stick with ContiSports? Recommendations would be appreciated.[8|]

If I was you I wouldn't go for a track biased tyre, I'd stick to the appropriate 'N' rated (Porsche Approved) road tyres.

Presumably you are running on 17" wheels. The Continentals are excellent and used to be categorised by Porsche as 'all-round', meaning that they are a good compromise between high performance and comfort/low noise.

However, a lot of people, including Autocar, recommend the Pirelli P-Zero Rossos, which I can also endorse.

Chris,

If your looking for somthing a little more sticky but still very user friendly especially in the wet, try Pirelli Corsa's.

Kevin s right abt Corsa but they will wear out quite quickly compared to rosso which will be fine in wet and give u feel on track while hardwearing and predictable on road ,i use on 2 out of 3 993's..................for road or track use i aim for 30/32 psi hot all round ........results solid as a rock.

if you want something a little more track focused , while still usable day to day try a set of Dunlop Formla "R"s. i have run two sets on my 993RS and find them good on the road and superb on the track.
The wear rate is suprisingly low and they were priced competitively at about £680+vat a set direct from Dunlop motorsport in Birmingham.
Just another option for you consider, but i think in the end it always is a compromise between good wet weather road performance, and super on the limit track handling and only you know which is most important to you ,dependant on total road milage per year etc.(my RS does less than 2k/annum road miles but a good few track days)
Good luck!!!

I think the request 'they must be drivable in the wet' rules them out.

At the PC Silverstone power boating sorry track day last year, I was happily circulating on Corsa's when all the Cup Sport runners were cowering in the garages.

Regards
