Three weeks into 993 ownership and Im finding it hard on the cheek bones having a constant grin [:D].. just a couple of points , my rears have approx 1,000 miles left in them and the fronts perhaps 6,000, currently on Dunlop 9090's which seem ok at present although I haven't really pushed the car yet, I'm aware of the Pirelli's/Michelins etc , my specialist highly recommend the Dunlop's but I would like any opinions from anybody whether they are a suitable tyre for this type of car, I dont intend tracking the car but I do like tyres that do the job..

Whilst MPG isn't an issue with this type of car , I was just curious as to what MPG, people get on a tank, I do approx 50% standing / crawling traffic ( under say 30 mph ) on a 4 mile journey into work and the remainder motorway mileage .. on 60 litres my first two tanks have been 203/202 before the light came on which I think is about 14mpg , seemed about what I thought ...over to you guys

The car has just had a service approx 300 miles ago so I'm a little surprised that the MPG is as low as 14.9 ( just calculated ) , the car has been misfiring when wet so this wont be helping the MPG but Ive been driving quite slow in fairness, maybe I need to speed up [:D]

I try to avoid heavy traffic as much as possible, but still do M25 M40 mostly off-peak for the majority of my miles ... consistently get 340-360 miles per tank of Optimax (approx 24 mpg) .... and I smile a lot [:D]. Last fill was 50 litres for 260 miles, so I think you're a bit thirsty. Everything up to par service wise, plugs / filters ?

I do a 30 mile daily commute, motorway, A road and a little heavy traffic, my fuel consumption is similar to that of Maurice`s 340 - 360 miles then the warning light comes on.

My 993C2 has done 65k, when I serviced it last, I noticed that the distributor cap and rotors contacts were getting quite burnt and also when changing the spark plugs that HT leads were getting quite brittle with minor cracking. I haven`t had any running problems, but its on my list of jobs to do next. The HT leads that go to the lower spark plugs are exposed to the elements and could be a potential source for your misfire on cold damp days.

I've also had my 993 for a couple of weeks and have been doing similar journies to yourself.

I'm getting about 19mpg, but I am accelerating hard at every opportunity to Feel the Fun!!

Glad you're also feeling the fun... Ive just reached the dreaded petrol light stage on my third tank .. this time 198 miles ( that's 13.7mpg [:mad:] ) and Im not pushing the car hard , so there is a problem somewhere, the car is going back to the garage next week and Im sure they will diagnose the problem , as I dread to think what MPG I'll start to get if I ever give the 993 a real blast..
 
Chris, I get similar results to you.

When driving around London (which can be stop and go, or sprited when a gap in traffic presents itself) I get around 180 miles before the light comes on. When doing motorway miles I get similar to the others (340-360 range). This is also pretty much in line with the 993 C4 that I used to own 5 years ago, so maybe you car is OK. Try taking it on a long motorway journey, you should notice a huge difference.

Incedently, the 997 and 996 are not that different in terms of miles per tankful, but the tank is a little smaller.

Cheers Marc, in fairness to the car its daily drive is about 30 minutes but only about 5 miles , so the car is barely moving and the couple of motorway outings per week are only 20 miles each way, however Ive got a couple of hundred mile motorway journey next month and that will give a far clearer indicator .

Hi Chris

I do a very similar journey to you each day - about 25 mins but just 6 miles or so. I get about 260+ miles out of a tank, but then I don't always get to fill it up completely because I use the quick fill card only pumps that have a £55 max on them! Therefore I reckon your car may be drinking a bit more than it should.... Mines a 1996 cab...

Cheers Ruth, Im pretty convinced that the car is eating more fuel than it should be , under 200 for a tank when the car is not being pushed at all is poor IMO, will feed back on what the garage reports when it eventually goes in. My motorway run in a couple of weeks is to a part of the country my best mate has just moved to and Ive not been before - Leicester :p

Well if it is consuming too much fuel and you find what the reason is. let me know. I'd be very interested.

Will do, the car will be in soon and I intend to get a number of minor faults rectified
