Tyres on 19s with pasm

I have 19s with contis on my 987s. I took the test drive plus and the test car was on 19s but michelins, the test car seemed alot more planted off pasm than my own. Mine seems very floaty. I mentioned this to the driver and he said it was down to tyres. Do the Mitchelins have firmer sidewalls?

From what little that I've read on this subject there seems to be a general conclusion that the Michelin's perform better on tracks. But this performance is offset against increased road noise over the Conti's and Pirelli's.
These comments might spark some interest for you Bax.

Thanks. Its not really a problem, its just that the michelin shod car seemed more planted with pasm off. I wonder whether th emichelins had a firmer sidewall as this would explain.

I have 19" Michelins and no PASM - the car feels very firmly sprung but not crashy and very well damped. I drove a 19" car with PASM on a test drive plus (but can't remember the make of tyres) and it felt too hard and not particularly well damped although at the time, I'd never driven a 987 and thus could only really compare it to my old 986 on 17" contis.

I've driven my car pretty enthusiastically on the road (not yet on the track) and I absolutely love the feeling of it particularly through fast, sweeping A roads. I can't believe anyone could call it "floaty". My last sports car was a Caterham Superlight so my experience is with a far more direct and involving car - even so the Boxster chassis is amazingly well controlled.

I'd suggest that there's something amiss with yours - perhaps the tyre pressures, a tyre out of true, poor alighnment, fulty damper or somesuch?

Michelin PS2s are the business. Just been on track with them - great performance even when the ground was freezing cold (the tyres weren't :) )

I reckon 18" wheels suit PASM better, having tried PASM with both wheel sizes.
