hi all need some help with this one my 996 turbo 2004 57k . huge tram lining when driving. car pulls one way then the other way when driving round town . what i want to know is of the michelin conti or b/stone or pirelli all n series witch one is the best tyre to help in prove this . i don t care about the cost just want to stop pulling side to side thanks steve [] forgot to say all the front / rear coffin arms are good

If the coffin arms have been off to check them (the only definite way) and the forked arms ans strut top mounts are also OK, then an alignment check is the first thing to get done. After that, if you still axperience the problem, then that's the time to think about tyres. Unless they are badly worn, of course. For example, a slight amount of toe-out will make it feel really twitchy, especially under braking on bad surfaces and thick white lines, etc.

My experience of tyres on the 996 is Michelins, Pirelli, Continental, and non-N rated Yokohamas. I found with all except the Yokos that they were great when new, but after a few thousand miles tended to tramline a bit. However, I think your definition and mine on 'tramlining' differ. I define it as being badly affected by ruts un the carriageway, caused by heavy road use. Particularly noticable in the left lane of motorways used by HGVs. Of course, I only ever seem to be in that lane entering or exiting the motorway. [;)]

Unlikely to be the tyres causing the issue but more a geometry issue. Get it checked by a reputable place. I took mine to centre gravity who was superb. But out of those tyres Michelin win hands down.

Agree with Richard, but it's also worth checking the inner ball joints on the steering rack as they are starting to become a common wear item on the 996 now.
