Tyres - what do you recommend

I need to get two new tyres for the rear of an S2 Cabriolet. I'll not be doing any track stuff, just road, but I'd like good quality tyres that will last.

I have Pirelli P-Zero Asimmetrico tyres all round at the moment, and I've been trying to get some again, but they're like hen's teeth! Everywhere I try quotes a price, then when they try to arrange delivery from Pirelli, they find that they're out of stock, on back order, with no manufacturing date in the next 6 weeks.[:(]

So, any suggestions? The from tyres are almost new so they're staying on which means that anything I get at the rear will have to be compatible. One garage suggested Pirelli P6000s, but that garage once suggested putting wagon tyres on my wife's RAV-4 so I'm not sure about them!

I've had a look around the forums, but it's mainly track use that's discussed there - not in a cabriolet, and certainly not with my driving skills.[&o]

Thanks.

Kumho Ecstas get my vote. Fantastic road tyre at a good price (and great in the wet on track [;)])

P6000s are universally unliked on this forum unless you like to do stellar mileage and want your tyres to last 50,000 miles

P6000 are the tyres of Satan. If you want to be able to go sideways on demand then fit a pair with your decent fronts, otherwise leave well alone. They even look metallic in the sunshine...

I just went with Dunlop Sport 9000 on the hearse which has a similar remit. I chose them partly on cost compared to the Michelin Pilot Primacy I intended to buy and partly or recommendation from the BMW forum. I had Primacy on my 306 and they were excellent and lasted pretty well.

I put Kumho Ecsta KU31's on the front of mine a couple of months ago and they seem great so far. Really good value for money....

(p.s. bought from mytyres)

Last year I got a good deal on Michelin SX MXX3 N2's from ATS and the handling of the car was transformed (for the better). Mind you, I think that reflects poorly on the shoddy no-name tyres they replaced.

I had exactly the same problem as you a few months back, only needed rears and couldn't find anyone to sell me P-zeros.

I eventually went for Bridgestone S01.

I replaced the fronts recently, to S01 aswell (from the former P-zeros).

I like the handling, seems to hold on better than the P-zeros and I have not experienced sudden breakaway as some people warned me.

Ride, I feel, is somewhat firmer than the P-zero and I suspect that wear will be worse, though I can't confirm this yet.

Don't know where abouts you are but Micheldever Tyres seem to blow everyone out of the water on price and are now a Pirelli Performance Centre so reports of quick fit cowboys (although I've never had any problems with them personally) should now be dispelled.

Hope the above helps
