All, I know this subject has been discussed regularly so I don't want to reignite old debates but now that have to replace the tyres before the next MOT I'm keen to get your collective thoughts on the on the best tyres to go for. My car is for occasional weekend use and the odd track day, if that makes any difference. I'm also interested in any recommended suppliers.
Thanks in advance.

You're going to get a fair amount of personal opinion and subjectivity I guess - it's a personal preference thing. I suspect that unless you're tracking the thing most times you're not in normal use going to able to tell the difference me thinks. My C4 came with Proxies which were fine and when they needed changing I just booted it up with Conti SportContacts. I know these are good in the wet, hard compound and good grip. It's been thrashed around the full Silverstone circuit and they grained pretty well ending up quite 'sticky'. I've been using nothing but these on the wife's Focus ST for years. Nothing more special than any other maybe, but for me I have that level of confidence with top range Conti's, that's all. N rated too (not that they must be N rated though). I use something like blackcircles.com for a starting price (10% discount if you've bought before from them) then try kwik-fit or local indie to better. HTH

Just thought I'd paddle my oar in this one. I use Pirelli P-zero's. I don't track my car, but find them good in the wet and seem to be reasonably hard wearing. I bought my rears from Kwik Fit, as they had the best Internet price at the time, however I didn't let them loose on the fitting as ham fisted is too kind an expression to use. Good luck.[:)]

Kevin, sorry for the belated response. I don't use the forum that often. I have my tyres fitted by a local garage, (I live in Co.Durham) The guy who owns the garage is a mate of mine, and he runs and maintains his own 964, which he has modified extensively. He also maintains mine so I'm lucky in that respect. If you live anywhere near Durham I can give you further information.

I have Michelin Pilot Sport on mine (no track use). However if i was to track I would have a second pair of wheels!

Thanks all for your thoughts - as susepcted, a good dose of personal preference but I think I have enough information to make sure I don't make a stupid decision
