TYRES

I need to replace the Bridgestone SO2s on my 964RS.
I do occasional track days, sprints and hillclimbs and some road use - max 2000 miles p/a.
What do I buy?

Not sure I would recommend the R888's as an all round tyre. They are great on track though . They hold up well in wet weather too when newish. But I would not trust them in standing water or in the wet when worn personally. The Proxes T1R might be a better bet but i have no personal experience of them. If you go for the R888 you must be able to accept the comprimise of lower wet weather performance.

Bear in mind that the Toyo R888 is a list 1B tyre, so not necessarily allowed in some production classes in competition - need to check the regs for the sprints/hillclimbs you do to see if they allow 1B (PCGB Speed Championship does).

Goodyear Eagle F1 Assymetrico's thrash all performance road tyres in magazine group tests, such as Autocar and EVO. You should be able to google details. Ian

These look interesting? I haven't tried them, but the new R1-R is an intermediate , between T1-R and 888. Scroll down for owner views, unfortunately none from Porsche drivers as yet.... http://www.toyo.co.uk/releasedetail.php?id=107&identity=latest_news

those do look interesting Paul. Think i still have a bit of life left in my R888's but i will probably switch to those when the r888's are history, assuming they are availiable in our sizes.

These do look interesting but still list 1B. For list 1A, Michelin PS2's seem to be Porsche's recommendation - but having such a close relationship with Michelin maybe they would. Tony

I'm guessing if you only do 2000 miles a year, you arent worried about wet weather performance? in which case R888s aren t a bad place to be and pretty cheap for a wheel that big!

Hmmm, those new Toyos do look interesting and they do come in the rights sizes for the RS. If they are cheaper than the R888 then they could be something of a bargain. Look like a decent choice for road and wet track days, though I imagine the R888s and Mich Cups will still have quite an edge in the dry ......... I guess they fill the gap in the market that the Dunlop SSR used to occupy ? Jamie
