Tyres

I need to get new tyres all round before Snetterton on the 19th. I've only ever used R888s on the car, but these are proving difficult to get hold of, in particular the fronts (225/45-17), so I'm looking for alternatives at sensible prices. Dunlop DZ03 are available, but silly price, esp. for the rears - about £300 each. Kumho V70A are looking attractive, easily available and about £100 a set cheaper than R888s. Has anyone tried these on a 964? Another option is the Federal 595 RS-R - again anyone have any experience of them?

Cheers
Ian

Have you tried camskill as per this thread http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=625929&mpage=1&key=R888&#629221. I got a set for just over 600 notes, not sure if the availability has hit them yet.

A friend recently got a full set in the sizes you need from Demon Tweeks. Design911 also list them on their website: http://www.design911.co.uk/fu/pt416_-cma81-cmo107/Porsche/964--911--1989-94/Tyres-for-track/

I'm considering buying a set of 18" Yokohama A048R's for track days, is this a wise choice and is it possible to run the size 285/30-18 on a 964Cup with 10J?

Ian, Various people have been using the Yokos for a while (eg Simon BartyRS) and seem to be happy with them. I was toying with the idea of the Kumhos purely and simply because if they're no good at least you haven't wasted a complete fortune, but Camskill still had R888s when I needed them just before Clastres. The Dunlops are meant to be very good, but I can't imagine they sell many at those crazy prices. I'm not sure about the Federals - seem a bit "cheap and cheerful" to me. I'm sure you've tried, but have a play with the various possible size combinations on the Camskills website - you can run everything from 205 to 225 up front and 245 to 265. There's an article in this month's Track Driver, which hit my doormat a couple of hours ago, comparing Yoko, Kumho and Federal plus others (no Mich or Toyo), and it is interesting to see the huge variation in size, weight, tread, profile and compound between supposedly identical sized tyres - so don't be put off by running what might appear to be a smaller size than usual as not all are the same by any means ! See you at Snett on the 19th ! Jamie

Demon Tweeks have the R888s back in stock (had been out of the fronts), so a set of those are on the way. I nearly went for the Kumhos, but went with what I know for now.
