UK pricing

Got a call from my dealer yesterday to say that the UK order book is now open so I popped in to see him. Prices are:-

Panamera S £70,000 approx incl VAT
Panamera 4S £75,000 approx
Panamera turbo £95,000 approx

So an S is going to be nearer to £80K than £70K once specced, and a 4S will be over £80K.

I was thinking about getting a Panamera to replace the current family bus, but at this price, I think I will probably get a new generation 5 series when they come out and save £30K. Will be interesting to see how it compares though.

How many did you buy? [:D]

Said I'd need time to think about it before committing. I'm not sure I'll go ahead as I've currently got a Maserati GranTurismo and no longer have a need for a four door car. The Panamera certainly loses out to the GT in looks and at £85k for a reasonably spec'ed 4S I'm not keen to a) lose a fortune on the trade in value of the Maserati and b) then lose a fortune in depreciation on the Panamera. I'll probably sit tight and wait for the Panamera coupe - assuming sales of the 4 door merit the launch of the 2 door.

Porsche say that they wil only be bringing in 100 units into the UK for 2009 and 400 per year thereafter (which is strange given the fact that they plan to produce 20,000 units per year globally?).

£70,000 for the basic model with no toys at all seems a little pricey to say the list.

Once metallic paint, leather, sat nav and wheels are added to this, you can easily see this being a starting price of £80,000 all in.

Autocar ran a story on it last week (4th March) and say that (the Turbo) is a stunning drive.

At £100,000 I am sure it will be. But can it really be worth that much more than a Quattroporte?

I think the Panamera should look better in the flesh than it does on print (it is a shame it wont be at Geneva next week to see) but I am sure it will sell, even at this unexpectedly high price.

It is just a shame that they have priced it at a price that seems at first glance to be 'hard to justify'.

If they started at £50,000 - £60,000, I am sure they would have many (like me) that would buy now for delivery in Sept/Oct instead of waiting on the fence to see.

For those that have outgrown the rear seats of their 997 the perhaps its an option, but given trade in prices nowadays i suspect for the same outlay you could keep the 997 and buy a year old Cayenne to cart the family around in.

they were touted last yr to be starting in the price region of the cayman!!

what a joke!!

They were never going to be priced near a Cayman when it was to be based on a Cayenne (which it isnt) but it would be nearer a Cayenne than a Cayman.

I have recieved the brochure in the post now and the prices incl VAT are;
S = £72,266
4S = £77,269
Turbo = £95,298

Note that the VAT rate in the UK will be going up to 17.5% at the end of year (if not higher - circa 18%).
