Maybe we should name and shame these sellers. they give the good ones a bad name, we don't want our cars going the same way as the VW crew or similar.

It's hard to know how to get through to people. How often have we seen people come on to all the various Porsche forums asking where to buy parts from without reading the FAQs, or using common sense and phoning the dealer for a price first?

Naming sellers isn't any use, they'll just change to another profile. We need to educate people to check prices in order. PC first, then specialists for a new part price. If new is unavailable or silly money, look to the list of decent breakers before auction sites.

The dash trim pieces are £7 each new from Porsche. What I didn't know was that they are different part numbers for each side [:-]

My personal favourite from the ever optimistic Mr Steve Strange OOoooooooOooo

That's a classic example: more than the price of the new part from Porsche, for a used option that's hardly going to be perfect.

Just like the poor guy I spoke to many years ago who'd bought an un-broken used cassette box hinge for £40. I didn't have the heart to tell him they were £9 new.... []

Unfortunately, people like this are many of in this life! What goes around comes around is my only comfort.

well I have to say in Steve Strange's defence he sold me a used starter motor for £25 posted next day delivery !

When I found it had the front bearing missing he sent me another starter immediately next day post ,for free.!
You can't beat that for service .

Mind you I did scratch my head a bit when I saw his price for used sills [:(]

The problem with these used part sharks is that there are plenty of idiots willing to pay whatever price they see without making any checks whatsoever.

I see it daily in the classic motorcycle and scooter world. Frankly I think they pay what they deserve.., if they haven't the commonsense to do a little research first but it does drive the parts prices up for the rest of us as unscrupulous sellers scrabble like Piranna to make a fast buck

Ive always sold my 944 spares at lower prices than most on ebay and in return I have met a lot of decent car people aswell as turning a small profit.
At the end of the day some of these parts are to keep older cars on the road within a budget.[8|]

I have also bought from DVB. Some of their pricing is sensible and competitive so I wasn't trying to initiate a burning at the stake or anything like that. But second hand sills for £250 is nuts.

Likewise I have no problem with people trying to make a living by making a profit by buying and selling but I think it's emminently sensible that the 944 community keeps one another informed if they see any "rip off" pricing.

i like this one

I had a bad time with Douglas Valley.... Telephoned for a price for rear lap strap seat belts. Made the trip to collect only to be told upon arrival the price had gone up (significantly), and they claimed they didn't know who had given that original price.

Haven't trader there since....

On another note..... I saw the dash screw covers also on eBay and was taken aback. I know the seller who I would rate as one of the best. Really great bloke very helpful and as of yet never left me feeling I'd paid too much for any item. There must be a reason for the price!?!

Bought loads of stuff off Mike, always reasonably priced and very helpful.
