Under Bonnet Insulation

I fitted this:

to my 944 a few years ago. I chose the 1/2 inch thick version. As a result there are impressions of the power steering cap and a few other ancillaries indented into the liner. So, you might want to choose the 1/4 inch version to avoid this.
Make sure the glue is fully cured before starting the engine, I suggest leaving it over night. Or else the solvent rapidly given off will balloon your new liner massively and you'll have a right job trimming off the now stretched excess liner materiel and refitting it all. And no, don't ask me how I found this out.

I'd have a word with the paint shop. The 944 S2 doesn't need under-bonnet sound proofing / heat shielding and it was never fitted by the factory. If your paintwork is crazing there is something amiss with the way the respray has been done.
I am planning to have my 82 Lux sprayed within the next year.
Not knowing any better I was planning to just replace the (largely disintegrated) OEM soundproofing pads with new.
Is the consensus that I may be better off not bothering to prevent heat buildup? The noise wont bother me overly as it hasn't really had any soundproofing since I bought her!
Your thoughts appreciated!

i agree..a standard car won't gain much if anything by removing the insulation except a little more noise, especially N/A...turbo's get hot under the bonnet even in standard form but the cooling system is excellent at doing it's job even when heavily modified. It is worth removing it though when involved with big mods, more so if you have a filter fitted under the bonnet which will be sucking in very hot air and thus loosing a substantial amount of the power available.

I will keep it original.
She had a rather nasty cone filter when I got her, but I have put a standard air filter back in.
