When my car didn't start yesterday I noticed that the sound insulation in the engine compartment more closely resembled a very damp sponge than anything useful. I'm thinking of having a go at removing it - when the rain stops today. I'm guessing that's likely to be a very messy affair and at the moment I won't be able to fully clean whatever adhesive is under the insulation, but will be able to remove the bulk of the insulation.
Right now I suspect that it's like having a wet blanket draped across the top of the engine. Can't imagine it's doing much good.
Should I go ahead and remove the bits I'm able to? Then get it replaced when I can get it to a shop? or not bother replacing?
