Under steer

Any ideas? May be my poor driving style, however I recently pulled off the M1 on a sweeping slip road which leads directly onto a carriageway. Granted it was slightly over the speed limit, however I got very twitchy at the way my 993 C2 sat giving the impression of wanting to under-steer and being very unsettled. I have done this manoeuvre a number of times in a Honda Accord which I've recently replaced with a SAAB Aero. The Saab is new and the Honda was only a few years old. I know things have moved on since my 1994, 911 seen a road for the 1st time, however I may of naively assumed that anything I can do very comfortably in my SAAB I should be able to do no probs in my Porsche. Am I expecting too much or could this be an indication of an issue? I know it could be a mixture of many factors but things like road condition and line were as many times before. Ideas would be appreciated. [8|]

I think Maurice is being a little optimistic in assuming that all is well with your setup. Tyre pressure etc are easy to check. I had a nasty (and I mean very nasty) couple of months when I first bought in October last year. Car was frankly terrifying in the wet and hitting white lines on the motorway meant the back end slewed around in very worrying fashion. Made overtaking an unnecessarily exciting manoeuver. Even at embarrassingly legal speeds. A quick trip to Tognola (Datchet) for geometry set up means that my licence is (reassuringly) once again in danger every time we set off. Unbelievable difference. The cheapest and quickest fix for a problem that was really worrying me. Mind you the reactions were pretty well tuned after two months of that...

Good luck - Michael

Must agree with Michael, get the car checked now! If you wait untill it happens again you may not be so lucky!

Thanks guys, some one had mentioned Geometry, but I know nothing about it and wanted to see if it was raised by you lot. Think I will play safe and whip it down to RLR in Teesside for a once over, their supposed to have a top rate machine for it. [:)]

could it be that your front tyres are gripping less because of the cooler weather, I too live in north east and use my C4 all year. The performance of my old front Conti's defintly degrade through the 'winter' months.

always look for simple solutions instead of throwing hundreds at the car
