Underseal... or lack of it

Hi All,

New to posting on this forum, so forgive any c**k ups! Picked up my 993RS ( normal lightweight spec) back in September and have a couple of concerns about taking it on the roads now that the gritters have been out. Basically the car has been sitting in a garage with a cover over it and a dehumidifier whirring away next to it, but I didn't buy it to sit and look at it; I desparately want to get out and enjoy it. Do most of you garage your cars for the winter months? Do you use them as normal and powerclean after use? Or have you sealed the underside? I'm sure the purists would baulk at the idea of adding weight etc etc but perhaps undersealing is the best option...?

I look forward to hearing the ideas, options and probable abuse!!

Use it enjoy it .............its all galvanised THyssen steel under the paint ............if theres salt , wheels off when u ve finished , warm soapy water on the Speedlines and same with a sponge on the tub .Never done any of mine any harm ,only probs occur with untreated race BBS , big job cleaning salt off those !!!!!

I paint on waxoyl on the underside if the car is used in the winter months, can easily be removed and to my mind is better than nothing,,,as Vic says, the speedlines are likely to suffer the most.

I very rarely use mine in winter as North Norfolk mud/salt bath roads are simply no fun this time of year. Personally I would never go out if salt has been on roads previous few days. If I had a jetwash at home perhaps I would!

I spray duck oil under mine once a year, then out on a nice winter day ,such as today.
The duck oil seeps into all the seems etc and also keeps all the suspension metal work in good condition.

Paul,
What's duck oil? Is there a brand name and where do you buy it from?

Many thanks,
Rich
