Understanding the servicing regime.....

oat

New member

Am I correct in assuming, as a rule of thumb, that if my annual mileage is circa. 5k per year (ie less than 9k per year) then the annual servicing regime from the date a car is registered is as follows (based for arguments sake on a new car):

Annual - 5k miles
Minor - 10k miles
Annual - 15k miles
Major - 20k miles
Annual - 25k miles
Minor - 30k miles
Annual - 35k miles
Major - 40k miles
and so on....

Just trying to understand how the annual part in relation to the minor (12k or every year) works?

Please bare with me on my newbie q's

Many thanks !

You've not specified what model and what year. For a 996 Porsche did away with annuals for MY04 onwards and went for 2 year/12k. When the 997 came out they went to 2 year/20k miles I think. Note that they often don't change the filter on low mileage cars.

Ahh apologies, I was referring to both really pre and post C4S and Turbo. So for post 04 996 models the annual service is scrapped altogether then? (ie only minor and major services).

I am having difficulty understanding how and when an annual service comes into play when a minor service is stipulated either every 12k miles or per year for pre 04 cars (ie annually)??

Many thanks once again![FONT=verdana,geneva"]

If you go into a Porsche Centre they'll probably give you a price list for the 996 and you'll see that from MY04 onwards the annual service is scrapped. The annual check is just a look/see so you probably get a better test done when you get the car MOTd (assuming you can check things like fluid levels and that the lights are working yourself). The maintenance book for the car specifies the service items (and the book should be the correct one for the model year, i.e. the publication number for a MY04 car ends in 04.
