Understeer solution?!?

I've read in issue 3 of Total 911 that to drastically improve the natural understeer on a C4, 964RS geometry settings should be applied. This should enable you to power oversteer to a certain extent.

Is this true? I'm just about to put my C4 into the garage to get lowered and geometry will need to be setup afterwards.
Would I be wise to get the car setup like a RS?

All 911s understeer naturally and this is more pronounced on the C4s, particularly the 964.

There was an item in 911 World a few years ago about a 964 C4 that had been tweeked to handle more neutrally, by adjusting the geometry, ride heights etc. However, whether you would ever get it to power oversteer, I'm not sure.

If you've got the space and want a bit of fun, you could switch the wheels around (front to rear). That's one way to reduce understeer and increase oversteer.

or a thicker rear anti-roll bar ? (assuming I've got that the right way around ?)

oversteer !

but with a naturally understeering C4, you 'should' get a better neutral balance, IMHO a change of rear anti-roll bar is a more long term solution.... but it just depends on what you want out of it

unless you like to swing further ?

I'll ask the bloke who's setting it up. More than natural thou' Sundeep. Around a track it is quite prominant, even a pro driver said the understeer was there is masses.

As for swinging further......you can never go to far!?![8D]

The other option, if you have 7.5" wide front wheels, is to fit 225/45/17 instead of 205/50s.
Unfortunately mine are only 7s, so it's not possible.....aparrently !
Mine's lowered & set up by Roock with H&R progressive springs.
Also got a Roock strutbrace.
There's still some understeer, but not much and only on the limit.
Very low though.......great.

Having the car lowered on Eibach springs end of this week and fitted a strut brace at the weekend.
My mechanic is looking at setting the geo. to a fast road setup.

So hopefully this should help the understeer.

You'll be impressed.
The car was lowered when bought, but there was a huge difference when I fitted the strut brace.
I was lucky that I bought the car from Michael Roock, so never have to ask a question about setup.
Just driven back from Southbound yesterday (new roof)....great blast through France & Belgium.
I love these cars.

My old C4 had Porsche sports suspension when i bought it -I was initially horrified at the amount of understeer -however,, about -1.5 degree neg on the front, strut brace and tad more power (292bhp) at the back really seemed to help rule out a lot of the problem, plus greater confidence in the abilities of the car as I got used to it.

Also on track I practiced trail braking to load up the front in order to get the power down sooner -seemed to do the trick, but don't try it at home.... [;)]

Got the car back two weeks ago after it's lowering and setup.
Finally managed to get a decent kind of run around the country lanes near home and can really feel the diff. with the new kit. Car feels a lot more planted, direct and confident. Feels like it wants to go around a corner rather than straight on.
Think this will do me for now, just my own driving skills to improve.
