Undertray

A friend of mine in Switzerland has just bought a 964 RS and the previous owner had removed the undertray on advice from a respected local specialist.

Mat asked me my thoughts and I initially said that I'd put it back on as I understood there to be aerodynamic benfit from the flat floor.

I have read some internet stuff as has Mat and it seems the weight of opinion is to remove the thing on both 964 and 993 as the key reason for its design seems to have been noise reduction. The benfits are apparently weight and reduced heat build up.

What is the consensus on here? Do you keep the tray on or off?

Kind regards

Personally, I keep it off, if you track the car it can help cooling, you can also see any oil leaks.
If you use it through the winter months the undertray will help keep road dirt away from the engine block and will also catch any small oil drips (if you have any?) before they hit the garage floor.
You can consider the weight and noise factors, but adding up the pros and cons there is no definitive answer.
