Unknown pipe

I've got my dash apart at the moment; before I pull the pipe out, whats on the other end? It feels like its disconnected but maybe it should just hang in space? Is the sensor plugged in to the other end and if mine is disconnected presumably the glove compartment has to come apart to find it?

A little fan draws cabin air through it to measure for temperature so the automatic control can work correctly. If it is not connected nothing terrible happens, but you probably find the heating doesn't maintain a constant temperature. When it works it's excellent, to the point I didn't have to adjust the temp to compensate for roof up or down in the cab.

Is this the circular "slotted vent" thing on the left of the centre console by ciggy lighter? If so is it much to replace 'cause i think mine might be buggered - i like the heat full on in the cab but just lately it's been making me eyes hurt![:)]

Fen thanks; ok but what should be at the other end of the pipe ie nearest the bulkhead? and assuming that it should connect to something how do I get at it to re connect? I can see that the end nearsest the cockpit should fit on to the back of the trim!

Yes, that's the vent. On the 968 forum someone posted they are about £6 for the grill if that's what's broken. If it's not working then drop the govebox liner and check the pipe is connected at both ends. I haven't heard of it fail, but in my cab temp control didn't work at first which turned out to be a trapped vacuum pipe in the blower assembly in the scuttle.

[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Drop the glovebox liner and you should see it. I forget what it looks like exactly, but I have pulled it off the bulkhead end before and managed to see to put it back OK with the liner out. When you take out the glovebox liner it's worth removing the fuse for the interior light first as it's very easy to short the glovebox light on the dash. Other than that it's one screw in the centre at the top by the light, 2 each on the sides from the front (one of them has the rubber cushion around it) and 1 each side in the bottom pointing outwards. All are Philips.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Brilliant bit of info - i wandered what it was for (i did think it was some sort of sensor for the alarm!).I'll have a butchers at mine tomorrow too.
