Unleaded Petrol

Don't groan.

I was reading a back copy of GTPP (Dec '04). In the tech section they said that an "84" SC Targa couldn't be run on unleaded petrol , the owner having difficulty finding LRP.

I dunno about anyone else but I've been running mine on a mix of 95 and 98 unleaded for the last four years without any indication of problems and based on advice from just about every other source.

Given that it was an '84' SC should I take this (and the advice to use additives) with a pinch of salt.

Here's an exert from an article I found somewhere on the net when I was wondering the same!!

When we started to convert to unleaded fuels here in the United States in the late seventies everyone was concerned about what was going to happen to our cars with out lead to lubricate the valve guides and cushion the valves on the valve seats.
One of the first things that I did was check with Porsche and they said that all of the cars from the SC forward had sintered iron seats made of a material that they call Pluko. They said that all of these cars would be fine and that they weren't sure about the earlier cars, but that if there was a problem the could provide Pluko seats for the earlier cars as well.

Thanks but no :) It was more a rhetorical question as I know that unleaded is OK. The overwhelming opinion a few years back from Porsche , Club and others was - use unleaded in SC's. Which was why I was very surprised to see that comment in GTPP
