UNsure if I should I fit a K&N panel filter to my 993 ?

I wouldn't bother, the gains are so small if any, I Like the sound but I don't like the oil on these filters. You got to remember
that the 911 is not as compromised as the VAG group. On previous cars, that would have been one of the first thing I would have changed, not anymore,
I had a look behind one of these filters and there was fine film of oil which came from the filter.
I am sure there are people who swear by the gains of using these filters, the gains if any are not worth the problems (or future problems) that is created.

cheers guys...

the standard panel filter it is..... [;)]

anyway looks like my spare cash is going on a full service that the garage said they did but did not []

Maurice has a point. Calm down and drive it as it is for a while, fix anything that may need fixing or bringing up to scratch and then see what you want to upgrade or mod.... I nearly did a similar thing when I first got mine. It is standard but now I quite like the idea of a remap but I understand other things should be done first - exhausts etc...

Maurice how about a strut mount - so you think it's worth it when I don't track yet ?

There seems to be a lot of apochryphal stories going around about K&N filters and the like. Very similar to the fact that Porsche engineering cannot be bettered!

I had my car remapped at 9M and got a gain of over 30bhp and they recommend you have at least a K&N filter fitted. And I trust 9M and their knowledge of our cars a lot more than so called experts who pop up on all of the forums.

In the end it is your choice, but I would suggest speaking to the likes of 9M before discounting it.

Will,

Are you talking about a strut brace?

Even if you do not track the car and do a bit of 'spirited' A road driving you will find the front of the car going into corners is really sorted, or put it another way more pointy!

I was always a bit dubious of the claims until I fitted one and you will not believe the difference is makes. It is a small outlay for a big improvement in handling.

William

Thanks Maurice and William - Think I'll got for a "Strut Brace" I know they just bolt onto the mounts but what about my alignment and geo etc....

Unless you pre-load the strut brace you should not affect the geometry. All you are doing simply is tying the two strut mounts together to stop them moving in different directions under load.

William

Strut braces are good things ! Probably give more benefit on the road in terms of slightly increased rigidity, good steering feel and sharp turn in. Or maybe I dreamt it all .....................

Gert at carnewal.com does a GT2 Evo (replica) brace, a meaty alloy tube that weighs next to nothing. But be careful, the strut top nuts don't take much torque. []

HTH, cheers, Maurice [8|]

now funny thing you've mentioned strut braces !

now it's a Targa so I was 'thinking [:-]' it could do with one.....

although I preferred the way the coupe drove (or it could have been that one), remembering that the Targa is on a Cabriolet chassis, maybe this is a worthwhile mod ? while I leave the other mechanical bits as OEM..

but I am going to get the front Armourfeud'ed and get a Xenon HID headlamp upgrade.....[:D] oh and a rear hoop spolier (with the 3rd rear brake light) as I'm a tad paranoid about folk driving into the back of me !!!!

regards

While your at it............... neon/UV blues under the moatttterrrrr (whatever that is) aand replace the wiper jets with blue led etc.... BRING IT ON Mr. Bling !!!! Friday afternoon styling consultant special ..... [:D]

cheers fellow gangsters of the hood...

although my budget for post purchase costs is quickly being used up from the maintenance to bring my car back up to tip top health...

so I may not get as much done ! []

but i'll do a full write up from the results of the day at Tognola Engineering (last owner & garage never serviced it !)

[:D]

Maurice,

My reply was not aimed at anyone on this forum and if it was taken that way I apologise.

It is just that I have seen so many debates on this subject that are not always constructive and wht I was trying to get across was to speak to people who fit them and get the information from the horses mouth, so to speak.

I am in actual fact a 993 owner, although my previous car was a 968, hence the name. I maybe a little on edge as I have spent a lot of time today on the phone to my insurers trying to sort out my claim for the value of my 993 which was trashed by an Audi TT.

Again no malice intended.

William

Maurice,

No problem.

The search continues for a repleacement 993, with or without a K&N filter[:D]

Anybody got a good cheap 993 for sale. The word cheap being the operative word as I have been well and truly rogered by the brokers/insurers[]

William

A K&N fitted to my old 964 cost me £40 and to insure the extra filter another £40 as it is classed as a performance increasing part.
It made more noise but I didnt notice any improvement in the performance
