Up in smoke, or not???

Whilst returning home from Porsche in the Park yesterday, I was told, following some " spirited" driving, that my exhaust seems to exhale a slight puff of smoke [] when the turbo kicks in at just over 3000 revs. Should I be worrying about this? The car is 14 years old and has 111,000 miles on the clock, but still hits 1.85 bar and pulls like a train.
Help!!!

Every 944 Turbo that I' ve followed when driven hard puffs blue smoke when the loud pedal is pressed (some even spit flame [:D] ). Unless you have a new or rebuilt turbocharger I would imagine it' s a little oil getting past old seals.

Sorry to disturb your sleep but in my experience it is when changing gear at the top end of the rev range that 944' s blow smoke, If there is smoke at 3,000 rpm it may be worth a look inside the pipe that runs to the intercooler, If this contains lots of oil or any metal particles I would have all the intake pipes off clean them and the intercooler and check for play damage to the turbocharger.

Is the Turbo noisy - can you hear it whistle quite clearly?

Also are you using thin runny oil or thicker stuff - I use 15/50 mobil 1 motorsport, which stays in better than other oils,

One other thing should have asked first!
Was it definately blue smoke (oil) or grey smoke (fuel) or grey / blue smoke (fuel washing out oil),

Have ascertained that it is indeed at the top of the rev range that it seems to be blowing. Cannot hear the turbo whistling at all, so hopefully that is OK!! Seems to be blueish smoke.

Oh, and generally use a heavier weight oil, as the specialist who services the car warned me against using Mobil 1 or the like, given the age and mileage of the car.
