Upgrade PCM SatNav for full postcodes

Hi

I have a 2011 987.2 and the SatNav only allows input of part of the postcode, which is a pain.

Do you know if it is possible to get the system updated to allow full postcode input, and if so, do Porsche charge, and how much?

Thanks guys!

Porsche were doing an offer of £150 for the postcode and map update, which was a bit of a bargain. I think it might still be on offer, but best check with your Porsche Centre.

Yep, you can have this updated along with the maps. £140 rings a bell, but give your local OPC as they often have offers on this sort of thing.

Blimey, not sure about a software upgrade being a bargain at £140 but I've emailed Porsche Reading to see what they say.

It seems ridiculous that in 2011 there was no full postcode entry - I have a 2008 Mercedes that has that feature!

I for one would certainly not pay that for an upgrade ...considering you can buy a complete Sat -Nav with all the PC Europe maps etc from £40 up to £100.. depends how often you use it I suppose and do not want the cable dangling across the dash .I use a TT about twice a year and it works for me .

The main reasons for going for built-in satnav are;

1. You don't have to worry about theft
2. No wires
3. No worries about charging / plugging in
4. Optimal position of the unit
5. Integration with the instrumentation so the next instruction is displayed right in front of you
6. Integration with sound system without having to plug anything in
7. Automated dropping of music volume when announcements are made

Plus, I used to use my mobile phone as my satnav but was finding that it wasn't recharging as quickly as it was discharging so over time my phone was, on long trips, running out of juice.

Bearing in mind the software update is just a case of popping a CD-ROM in the drive and waiting a few minutes, I still think £140 is daylight robbery.
If anything, it should be done free as part of the bi-annual service, in the same way the PDK software gets updated.
I can understand a *small* fee for map updates I suppose, but £140 is taking the mick.

Anyway we shall see what Porsche quote and I'll have to weigh up the cost versus the benefit. There are CD-ROMs available on Ebay but that's a dodgier route to take...

it takes quite a few hours to do OPC will want your car for a day and it takes up workshop space.

they also have to pay for the update so make no money, and because your car is taking up a space it costs the dealer to do this for you.

They've quoted £149.95 inc VAT. I've asked for a full list of new features so I can make up my mind if it's worthwhile or not.

I've just had mine done, it's updaded the maps to the latest version and works well so far. Although I agree it should be there already you might as well get the most of your Sat Nav you have built in and it will take you to the door.

BTW, they will need your car for the day as they told me some cars can take several hours to upload..

In car sat nav is also a good selling point when the time comes...

not in 10 years time though lol also if you buy new at £2.5k you will not get £2.5k back you will get 1k at best back.

So you are still better off not speccing it.

Depends how old the car is, if I were buying a 2 year old car I would want PCM to aid resale again as I only keep my cars a short time

if I were buying a 10 year old GT3 or a CSL or some thing old systems are just better off not having now.

It still smells like a ripoff to me. I bought my daughter a generic satnav from eBay lat year. It cost £45 with postage and the refills are free; you just go to the website and download the one you need and copy it to a MicroSD SIM. The Porsche software is nowhere near as good and I doubt that I have the whole world's maps for it, so £140 _each time_ smacks of someone being greedy.

I guess I need to buy the upgrade, but once I have done so I shall definitely put it out there as a torrent.

Normally the first stage is to bring the PCM up to the latest version-which also takes some time- before the latest map data is loaded. Good luck with the "torrent". I wouldn't let anything downloaded from the interweb/ebay anywhere near mine! (and without the up to date PCM it won't work anyway)
