Upgrade to 964 Carrera 2

Hi,

Recently joined the club and visited ragley hall which was disappointing. Due to poor organisation. No food. Poor access.

Whilst there I was hoping to meet some members who may help me with my quest to improve my 964 which has been my dream car since I was a small child, but was unable to locate my region.

My quest starts with wanting to upgrade the original steering wheel to a club sport or a rs wheel. There are so many places to purchase. Were do I start?

Also I think my car sits high at the front and feels unstable at high speeds. Would the car being lowered help?

I would appreicate any advice or help anyone can offer.

Thanks

Paul

Loads of places sell the three spoke wheel, expect to pay around £200-250. The original RS wheel is the same as the normal 4 spoke wheel but with a RS logo instead of Carrera.
I think the three spoke wheel widely available gives a great feel, but it can block out some of the dials. From my seating position I can only see up to 80 mph.
As standard the 964 C2/4 sits fairly high. Lowering springs are available that lower between 30-40mm from £95 but you get what you pay for. It depends on whether you want to lower for cosmetics or handling. A lowered car should feel more planted at high speed (depends on how high??) but I would recommend a decent geo setup after changing the spring/struts or both, it made the world of difference to my C4.

Have fun with it!

great choice of new toy!!! first thing I did to my C4 was the suspension I replaced shocks and springs H&R 40mm lower ride height and it completely transformed the car. Great on track too. its a firmer ride on the road and feel more bumps but hey its a sports car and the handling is awesome.

In my experience I have always bought the parts from one of the on line dealers like type 911, design 911, porscheshop etc and had a specialist fit them for me. As I get braver I try to do things myself. Try and get friendly with your local specialist and use them for contacts, parts info etc cause some don't like you ordering your own parts as they lose the margin and you can get the wrong bits!?!
For the geo setup I used a bloke called Chris Franklin at Centre Gravity and was well chuffed with what he did with the setup (I requested a track bias setup), he's based in Tamworth but has a portable set up so can travel.
