I've not seen any 996's out there that have had there audio equipment uprated....

How do you guys rate the standard item?

Has anyone changed the headunit?added different front speakers?Amps? And is it possible to fit a sub?......where would the sub/amp go?

Any pics most welcome!

i have the (bose) sound package on mine (chosen as an optional extra by the previous owner).... and it seems to do the job.[:D]

Yes I did a major upgrade using Kenwood equipment. Includes Radio, TV, SatNav, DVD & TV. Pic attached

Hi Gary

That installation looks excellent.

A few questions for you if you don't mind as I've been looking to do something similar

What did you do by way of uprated loudspeakers?
Do you have the model numbers of the Kenwood kit?
Where would I get the surround for the Climate Control unit that is required to mount it at the bottom of the centre console?
Lastly could you point me towards a good installer?

Many thanks

The Nav unit is the DV-3200
Screen/Radio/DVD Player is the DDX-7025, but there is an updated version coming out this month
TV Tuner is KTC-V500E

My car already had the PCM package so the Aircon controls were already in the lower slot. Susspect you can get a surround from Porsche-apart breakers.

I did at a a later stage install a 250W 2-ch amp and Focal K2 speakers in the front

I live in Surrey, so I cant give you any installer contacts. Mine was done by a local independent chap, who has a reputation with prestiege cars

My audio system is totally revamped. I had the old CDC-220 head unit which was crap and no sat nav and no door speakers.

I have fitted the following:
Kicker 300/300 watt amp under a false floor in the bonnet.
Replaced front dash and rear panel 4" speakers with 4" drivers from a Bose 901 system.
Fitted an 8" Phase Linear Aliante low profile woofer into a chopped-in-half magnum base tube which
sits on one of the rear seat wells.
Fitted a Blaupunkt DX-R70 single din CD/Radio/Sat Nav system (Nav works brilliantly.....especially good when we took it to France and Spain).
Fitted a Dension IceLink->Plus so that I can use my iPod.
Fitted a Brodit iPod holder.
Fited a Parrot CK3000 hands free bluetooth phone system.

Audio quality is fantastic and very punchy with clear top end and excellent mid range.
It's not flashy and everything but the iPod holder is hidden.
The only issue is a bug in the Denssion IceLink firmware (which is being worked on now) which requires
the iPod to be rebooted at every engine start.

Its reassuring to know that the ICE is upgradeable....

Has anyone fitted a boxed sub? If so, where did it go?

I cant believe Gary that is what i am about to make the interior of mine look like!! i already ahve the DV3200 , KT725 (flip screen) DVD and kenwood music keg in my CSL and its all coming out of there to go in the turbo, but at the same time i am replacing the flip screen unit with the fixed one which is the one you have ( i think the fixed one looks more like oem equipment .. flip screen are all over the place these days ... ). Oh and i will but the nav unit under the seat as i have my cyclops wired into the spare tray slot.. dont need to get to the nav disc very often really!!
I use (and trust) Bannings of Guilford to do the work and give advice and theres is no point to wait for the new unit that replaces the 7025 as it is still 2 months away and going to be a lot more expensive and for what? nothing we can see from the blurb supplied by kenwood !!
My car did not have PCM so we have to move the heating controls down but bannings have done a few of these already and its not a big job. Maybe yours was done by them ? They are top guys and do work for Porsche Guilford and Barons and Mercs and even Williams F1 team! I was ther elast year when one of the big rigs was in .. amazing what they were fiting in that!!
The only issue i have at the moment is that the surround for the screen is a bit light in colour (dark grey rather than black). I have tried to spray one to match the silver trim but that didnt work so am going to have to spray it matt black now!!
