Upgrading cdr32

I have a cdr32 audio system in my 2002 c4 cab with Bose amplifier. Although good sound quality, it doesn't have such wonderful things as iPod connection or blue tooth prep. Any suggestions for upgrade / replacement? As far as I can make out from reading around there is no easy iPod upgrade. Can anyone suggest options?

There is an easy (but expensive) iPod solution - the Dension Gateway 500. AFAIK there isn't a Bluetooth option for it yet.

The problem with the CDR23 and Bose system is that they use the MOST fibre optic connections between head unit, amplifier, CD changer, instrument cluster and phone, etc., making it difficult to integrate normal wired technology. If you want to replace the head unit, then you are looking at a new amplifier and speakers too.

Dension have just released their Gateway Five, and I believe they may be working on a solution for Porsche MOST systems. http://www.dension.com/en/multimedia-adapter/gateway-five . It might be worth dropping them an email to see if they are, and a release date.

I put a dension 500 in. It was easy to fit and is located next to the CDC in the front. I fed the iPod lead through to the passenger compartment and into the centre consol. The only thing with the Dension is that there is currently no Bluetooth compatible with it and the cdr. The sound quality is however very good. If you search the forum for dension 500 you should find some info.

I'm on the waiting list for the Dension Five. Latest update was that they're looking at a March launch in the UK retail market. The e-mail address for the UK distributor sales team is support@ipodcarkitdirect.co.uk. If you contact them, they'll add you to the list and notify you when available.

Cheers,

Neil.

Thnx but I have looked on the website referenced and they only support 2003 cars onwards. Did Porsche change their wiring at the end of 2003 to Most? I did speak to a local car audio specialist who said a new head unit containing BT, and iPod connectivity was the only answer?

They changed to MOST for MY2003, so from 1st September 2002. You said in your first post CDR32, but I assumed it was a typo and should have been CDR23. If so, it is almost certainly a MOST system. It's predecessor, the CDR22 was non-MOST.

No typo I'm afraid. It's definitely a cdr 32 (not 23 or22). therefore it is pre Most even tho' it is a 52 plate car.

In that case, the iPod solution is relatively easy with a Soliso adapter ( http://www.solisto.de/en/radios/porsche ) but the Bluetooth isn't.

Why not bite the bullet and get a nice Becker unit with both? I believe it is difficult to source the Grand Prix these days, which would have been ideal, but you might get a second hand one somewhere. Or perhaps the Cascade? Very OEM look, if that's what you are after.

Thnx you're right I want to keep the oem look./feel. I'll keep my eyes open for a 2 nd hand option. I understand that Becker now only sell to the oem market.
