Upgrading factory speakers on a 993 Cab

Hi,
I have looked through historic threads but I can't find a recommendation for replacement speakers for my 1995 993 Cab. My car has the "Hi-Fi" speaker units. I am looking for a direct swap replacement that keeps the same speaker grilles if possible. Nothing too high end please!
Thanks,
Laurence

I think you're best checking on Rennlist - there always seems an abundance of suggestions regarding speaker upgrades etc!
Good luck

there is a post along these lines in the technical articles section

personally i didn't want to do any mods, so i bought a fresh set of oem speakers. they are certainly an improvement on the ones that had done 17 years or so, much tighter sound, not vastly better, but worth doing. I'm sure you could get much better results with after market units of course. the one additional tweak was to use the crossover facility in my becker headunit which allowed me to tune out some of the undesirable aspects of the 993 speakers. if your head unit allows this, it makes quite a lot of difference to the overall sound.

regards

Andrew

Thanks. A company called Sound Evo near me in Watford have replaced the original speakers with JL speakers in the front doors and the rear side panels but the tweeters they propose using don't fit within the original tweeter grilles. Does anyone know of any aftermarket tweeters that fit within the original 993 Nokia tweeter grilles?
Thanks

Hi

Audison Prima tweeters will fit (though they need to be glued in) - I have just had the original Nokias in my 1995 coupe replaced with them.

What I don't know is whether you can buy the tweeters on their own (I had the full component set installed, i.e. door woofers and tweeters plus crossovers).

I'd certainly recommend them for sound quality and they aren't expensive.

I used Stuart Crombie at Accutek in Winchester, who did a fantastic job.

Thanks - this is very helpful as I've been struggling to find tweeters that will fit the Porsche housings. The depth is the issue.
