Uprated ARBs

Gents, can anyone advise on this?

I'm prepping the early 944 for hardcore European hillclimbing in 2016 - St Ursanne and the likes.

Over winter we'll be prepping the car in the workshop. The new engine is being built, the LSD is going in and ride height dropped back from the 1" lift it now has in rally trim.

I think with the drop in height and the diff it would be wise to uprate the ARBs, probably for Turbo items - are these the MO30 options?

Couple of questions:

1) Will 944T ARBS drop straight onto my very early car?
2) If so are they readily available?
3) If so does anyone have a pair to sell?

Thanks!

Oh, last question - clutch kits - any tips on where to source good value online?

That's very interesting, thanks!

I guess what I'm after then (assuming they all fit the same irrespective of year) is a 23mm M030 tubular or a 21.5mm M030 solid for the front and the 18mm rear.

Probably correct - The internet isn't always right... :) actually I may have a rear 18mm bar somewhere, but it's buried deep at the back of the garage.

http://www.944turbo.org.uk/suspension.htm

The Turbo S (and the S2) has a 26.8 mm front tubular stabilizer bar, up from 25.5 mm of previous Turbo's. At some point in production of the 89 turbo they changed the rear sway size from 18mm to 16mm to "enhance stability" (IE more understeer).

Thanks for the clarification and part numbers, will have a dig around online to try and find some for sale. Even more money to Powerflex too for the bushes!

Brillo, thanks. Just been offered a set of 25.5mm / 18mm from a chap on t'internet. Not sure how much yet but will probably get me where I want to go in setting up the car.

The front bar on my 91 turbo is 26.8mm, possible it's been changed in the past but it would have been an odd thing to do as the rear bar was still 16mm. Changed the rear for an 18mm and I could feel the difference.

The 25.5mm front and 18mm rear is going to cost me £50 for both from this chap. Pretty chuffed with that.

The chap who sorts my cars also has a media blasting business so I'll have them refurbished and stuck on with powerflex purple polybushes. All in for about £150.

I would aim to go bigger than 18mm at the rear if I were you; my car had a lot of understeer with the stock 25.5 front/18mm rear bars. I kept the stock front bar but now run a 22mm Welmeister adjustable rear set on about half way. You've seen first hand how oversteery my car can be when I want it to be ;-)

The 20mm one from an OPC has to be worth a shout, I almost ordered one earlier this year just to give it a try...

Spring rates first, then tune with arb?...
Mine has stock arb's and is reasonably (and stiff)... I've resisted fitting the 19mm bar as it might just be too much

It is! It's very easy to adjust, with small adjustments making quite a big difference to the balance. I tend to run mine with a little understeer at corner entry so I can get on the gas early (which as you know you need to do anyway to build up boooooost). However my spring rates are also biased towards a stiffer front end too. It's always best to approach these things as a package.

Gents, have bought the 25.5 front ARB so now just after the rear.

If anyone has an 18/19/20 to sell please drop me a line.
