That’s really bad luck Graham. Usually a solid light isn’t catastrophic … most likely emissions related. Maybe a Lambda sensor fault?

Hope you get it fixed quickly and get on your way.

Jeff

Thanks for the reply Jeff.

The RAC ' machine' is in motion.

The local vow dealer won't touch it.

The next port of call is the Salzburg OPC, and their service dept will be calling me before 11 tomorrow. In parallel, rac Austrian Rep will call them too so to plan what to do.

An email toZuffenhaus has suggested a plug top which I have as a spare in the boot, or the VVS valve sensor.

Seems odd that the car runs well after switched off, pause a few mins and restart.

I hope I can get permission to drive the car to OPC even if we have to do it in steps.

we are here for a few days, so might all work out!

Oddly, next stop over is Satzburg!

The car ran really well for last 3 days of motorways, but traffic todaydue to road works caught us ticking over and crawling for about 1 hour.

it threw the light after that.

My 987.2 is with us in Austria.
the Orange engine light has come on and the message in red says reduced power, take car to workshop.
I switched the car off after a very long cramped motorway drive and paused for a few mins.
car restarted perfectly, no lights at all.
Drove carefully for about 20 km and same happened.
car running as if on 5 cylinders and definitely strangled on power.

got to Hotel, switched off again and waited a few mins.
car restarted perfectly, no lights.
need to get it fixed!
hoping to take it to OPEC in Salzburg tomorrow, 50 mins away.

any ideas as to the fault please?
oil level good, engine temp normal.
Graham.

Sorry to hear might be a coil pack or plug breaking down or a sensor after getting so hot in long traffic.

Hope it's an inexpensive quick fix

Good luck.

There is a good Porsche Centre in Salzburg with hotels all around quite near to the centre of the town.

Good luck, Robin.

OPC Salzburg will read the fault codes so at least you will know what the problem is. Hope it is a quick fix. Let us know how you get on.

Good advice from the last 2 posts.

The only way to get to the bottom of a correct diagnosis is get it plugged in for faults.

Good luck

The local RAC man rep has plugged in and it is number 5 plug top.

I have a spare in the boot!

Hope to get it changed locally tomorrow morning.

As ever, thank you all for your replies.

Will update when done.

Got the car to him this morning by 9.39am.

Engine ran perfectly and no lights on dash of course.

By 10.00am the new top was on.

No charges and works well!

OPC in Salzburg rang as promised yesterday to see if I needed any help.

Impressed by the RAC Euro brake down system.

They called me 4 times to check all was well, that I was happy and to just call if I had any further problems.

Going to RAIN tomorrow and 20C thank goodness, been in the 30C for days.

Boxster a/c on full test, been perfect.

thank you to everyone for tips and kind words.

That’s great news Graham. Impressive RAC support … and thank goodness for diagnostics on complex modern cars!

Enjoy the remainder of your trip.

Jeff

Salzburg OPC have 3 in stock, so have reserved one for me, collect on Monday.

They are just down the road from our hotel there.

67 Euro each inc all taxes, but I'll have one!

They have been excellent and have come up trumps Dealing with my English easy.

Been out for a run today, got some 97 octane fuel too, 1.76 Euro per litre, car runs well.

33.4 mpg while doing hours at 130 km/hour.

there are many fuel stations that still operate simply, fill up and pay the lady in the shop.

Some stations are far move techie and thus complicated and awkward to use.

Keep it Simple!

partaking in coffee and cake and a demon real apple strudel too, so back in the holiday mood....
