Hi Guys
I was just preparing the car for Oulten and a surprising thing happened.
One of the seat retaining screws snapped at rear left of drivers seat......yes the most awkward one to get too.
Reason for this post is that once I got the seat out, removed the snapped bolt from seat....no mean feet and refitted, I realised that all the screws in both drivers and passenger seat were slightly loose although seats were not!
It may be something that we forget about as we check everything else but it is potentially dangerous so I would advise your check they are tight
Maybe you do this as matter of course?

I would also like to add that on many 964RS's the seat mountings themselves tend to crack through. Remove the seat completely to inspect the mountings and have them properly repaired if you find them to be cracked.

How can they be repaired Colin? -they seem realy thin.

Prob with mine was non-standard washers which I've now replaced with the proper oblong 'nut' that apears to help spread the loads.

We simply weld up the crack and plate over the top neatly with an additional layer of mild steel carefully cut to the exact profile of the original. Quick flash over with priomer and satin black and you cannot tell the difference.

I would also add that using original threaded plate mountings is essential for proper seat location, but even with these fitted the seat mountings still crack readily, so don't assume that your non-original mountings were the sole cause of the failure.

Thanks Colin -another little project then....[:D]

BTW, I didn't see Mark after I'd fixed it, but he suggested a check over of the leads to the ABS pump -a waggle of the plugs soon sorted the brake problem at Oulton -do pass on my thanks.
