US spec 3.2s

Good morning all

I know that these produced less power (207 bhp wiith 915 box, 217 with G50) and ran on a lower compression ratio and had a heavier exhaust system. Was there any other difference in them versus UK/Euro spec and how easy is it to regain the lost power?

Ditch the cat and replace with std euro/uk presilencer and add a Steve Wong chip and you should be very close to 230hp.

Other than the difference between the cat and presilencer the exhaust is the same. Extra weight came in the form of hydraulic bumper shocks rather than sacrificial tubes. Ride height is also usually higher and lowering requires removal of a spacer in the front strut.

Richard, thanks a lot - do you have any contact details for Steve Wong? Is it a straight swap chips jobbie without any need for remapping?

This is an excellent subject. The USA spec cars also only had five or six blades(?) on the fan due to noise control.

Anyone with Swiss 930/26, USA 930/21 (1984 to 1986) and USA 930/25 (1986 to 1989) engines or chassis codes 12, 16 and 17 or not beginning with WPO - please post some information.

For non-UK spec cars - if you don't have C16 under the option codes as well. Possibly for South Africa, Australia, New Zealand or Japan (all RHD markets).

Photographs would also be useful.

Tony, are you sure the US 3.2s had 5/6 blade fans? I have seen plenty of pics of US cars with just the same fans as our cars - search Pelican for anything related to fan refurbs and you will see what I mean.

And BTW, I do have a day job [:D]. I just take one or two mini breaks each day...

Also BTW, NZ cars are the same as UK. Australia got some sort of amalgamation of Japan, US, Swiss spec in order to comply with ADRs.

I have to say that I thought the 21 and 25 engines had a different fan due to noise restrictions in the USA. It is one of those bits of useless information in the back of my head - I may be wrong - perhaps someone who owns a US spec car might pop out and count the blades.

Do the NZ cars have C16 in the option list? I am awaiting to hear from a South African owner if it appears on their cars. I think both NZ and SA are UK cars - perhaps with local mods - reflectors and the like.

I also have those mini breaks - trouble is, they can lead to total day breaks if not carefull.

I think the fans in question were fitted to the 2.7litre cars in the 70s to make the engine run hotter and therefore improve emmisions.

Mark,

If you are considering changing the cat for a pre silencer - I have a Dansk S/S pre silencer for sale. Used for about 5k miles (1 year)

BTW - you will not go wrong with Mr Wong!

Jacob, could well be - how much do you want for it?

...and do you have any contact details for this Mr Wong?

Cheers
