Use of recirc

I've had my A/C system recharged today and was enjoying my drive home with my breath condensing. I've noticed that every time I get my system recharged the mechanics always switch on the recirc button. This always annoys me because i've always considerd that you only use recirc in traffic to avoid the smell of exhaust fumes. Is aircon supposed to work with recirc? If so why not have it tied so when you switch on the A/C it automatically switches on the recurc? I'd much rather have nice fresh air flowing through the car rather than recirculating the same old stale air.

Hi Scott,

In my experience it just makes the A/C cooler quicker (as you are recirculating cooler air in the cabin, that is getting cooled again). Like you, I would prefer air coming in to be chilled by the A/C and this is equally effective I find on the 944 Turbo when the system is working at peak efficiency.

Congratulations on being one of the few with working A/C? I need to get mine fixed as it gets quite warm doing those hot laps ;-)

Regards,
Andrew

My Aircon is lovely and cold [:)]

Took a few trips to the garage to get it fired up though.

Made up I got it sorted, now makes for very comfy summer drives.

I tend to use Ricirc initially to enable the cabin temperature to drop quickly, the theory is if it is hot out side then the hot air coming into the unit will take longer to cool than air already cooled inside the car.
Once at the right temp or comfortable then I switch it over.
