I thought I would ask my local OPC about trade in values. I have an April 2008 997 C4S, very strong spec. 10K miles. Paid £78 K for it which included a discount as it's Gen 1.

Against a new car costing £ 83K was offered £ 52K!

My last new Porsche I think.

All cars have fallen like this. Porsche is not an exception given what is going on in the wider world.

Even on the Porsche website, they have gen 2 997's listed already (which didnt happen when the first 997's came out in 2004/05).

So it is a sign of the times.

Musical chairs people, and the music just stopped!! Anyone left with a Porsche should really be happy with where they sit right now. Everyone trading in every couple of years is just making the situation worse.

I pushed the boat out spec'ing my current Porsche with the exact intention of keeping it long term. That depreciation black hole isn't getting any more of my money in the foreseeable future [>:] Plus I am actually saving the planet (apparently) by not adding to more new car manufacturing CO2 overheads [:D]

I guess nobody wants a AM V8 when the V12 is on it's way.

I assume the Audi R8 V8 will have the same problem when a new V10 is released.

AMV12 is coupe only and a lot more money to buy and run ... Either way the 997 is holding up a lot better than James Bonds brand (new)[;)]

Yes indeed, I was the thread starter there.

I have just agreed a price of £29,500 at the weekend so hopefully that all goes through smoothly.

I'll just have to make up the loss by negotiating hard on my next 997 cab purchase.
Will make sure this one has ultra low miles so I can keep it for 4 years.

Prices have stopped slipping though on the positive side, just fewer buyers out there.
