Using a 944 in the snow?

hiya,,,,
with the first signs of snow over in Epping forest today and the possibility of more snow,,,
do people use there 944 in this weather? and how does our cars stand up in this sort of weather?,,,
I remember trying to drive xjs"s,,,,big old mercs and bmws in the 80s when we had snow and although a lot of fun [albeit in your late teens to early 20s] it was pretty scary,,,
realistically though,, are our cars undriveable in this sort of weather?,,,,,,jasonp

I used to with my turbo, it had traction thanks to the lsd but was a bit of a snow plough. I bought a second car to use in the winter after a couple of years. Rust is always a concern too of course.

Mine was useless. I recall tip toeing home as it had snowed during the day and felt pleased I'd made it only to get stuck on the slight incline that is the entrance to my drive. 45 mins of digging snow from under wheels and eventually I slithered into the garage. And there it stayed.

A set of winter tyres would make a big difference or do what I did and buy a range rover.

The Porsche Transaxle is one of the best front engined RWD car's in the snow.....so much more capable than Beemer's jags etc..due to the 50/50 weight distribution.

However not on big wheels & tyres, ideally 15's with 195/65/15 and winter even better....

Chocolate fire guard is the expression that springs to mind. I rarely rake mine out in the rain, nevermind the winter of snow! That lovely shove of boost when you least expect it will kill you!

Nope. I bought an A4 quattro S-Line 5 years ago and even on summer tyres it's a laugh in the snow. My old 3 Series couldn't get up my drive in the same conditions.

Any nice day High Beach for a bacon butty and a coffee

i drive mine all year so any time, it got filthy yesterday but too cold to was it

When my coupe was my everyday car I used it in the snow a few times, not ideal as apply boost at low speed and the rear slipped sideways down the camber. Off boost with an LSD and tall gearing it would crawl up most stuff I encountered, I never got stuck and space allowed for boost it was fun (I do generally enjoy sliding though - it can cause blind panic in others :) ).

I do live in the south though so don't see real snow very often, When I go skiing I take a 4wd!

I have no issues driving my car in snow, (not that we get much here anymore) but then I've had no problems driving any car in snow....hell I used to ride my motorbike to work and back in snow too.....if you can't drive safely in snow you shouldn't be driving... I'm talking a few inches btw.. not bloody snowdrifts...lol
