using pen for stone chips?

jasonp

New member
hiya all, noticed very small chips on d/side wing mirror and on d/side bottom wing, i was wondering if anybody uses pens for similar on there own cars? and is there a certain way to use/apply the paint from the pen? regards jason p

I use a paper clip or cocktail stick dipped into the touch-up paint to repair very small chips etc.

Works fine for me. [:)]

Clive

For best results put less paint in the chip than you really need, let it dry overnight and then put a little more in. Gradually build it up until you are happy. Putting a great big blob in one go will just make a mess. It is highly unlikely the colour will match but the important thing is to get something in there to reduce the risk of rust [:)]

Are these touch up pens available from OPC or are you getting them from Halfrauds or similar?

I'd be interested to know :) my car looks like its been used for target practice.... those pesky grit spreaders [:mad:]

EDIT: Just remembered I bought one from Exeter OPC a couple of months ago and forgot about it until I just read this thread :D a job for the weekend me thinks.

I would also add that after you've touched in the paint and let dry a day or so you can wet sand it down to the surrounding paint level if its a tad high ( I've used a razor sharp blade to remove excessive paint)...if done carefully the results are almost invisible.

Cool any advice on howto prepare the area before applying the paint? I waxed the car on the weekend to do i just need to wash the area beforehand?

Cheers

hiya all, thanks for advice, 1 guards red pen ordered from local opc for £12.75p including vat, cheers all, regards jason p
