usual suspects

my 944 lux seems to be developing a squeak rattle when driving.

I've heard it before in my other 944's but perhaps I'm becoming a grumpy old man as I get older and would like to solve this if I can.

thought it might be sunroof but still makes noise when down and I have heard it coming from the rear inside.

wonder what the usual supect rattle and squeaks are and what people do to fix?

My car rattled and squeaked at the rear.. the tailgate pins were the problem.. I replaced these along with the catches and tailgate seal and no more bother... Try adjusting them first...... [;)]

Mine has developed a tinny rattle from the rear ... I suspect a loose baffle (or two) in the exhaust system somewhere.

Anyone any ideas for solving this?

is it mostly when you are on idle and stationary ? I read somewhere it could be the gearbox but not sure which part. Mine is a bit rattly I thought it was the exhaust but now I'm not sure. I'll ask to check next MOT

Self-tap screw? Bodge-eroo! How do you know where in the silencer to put it?

Peanut - no, it's a rattle that only appears at a certain rnage of engine revs, and sounds like a bit of tin ratling. I thought it was pinking at first, but it happens at that revs regardless of what you are asking the engine to do - i.e. it happens under full load as well as no load, so very unlikely to be pinking (I hope!)

It sounds VERY like a loose exhaust heat shield, so I am suspecting that as well as a loose baffle.

Could be one of the brake disk backing plates, they are thin tin metal and easily bent into the wrong place.

My offside front on the S2 occasionally does it at 3500rpm until I bend it out of the way and it's quiet for a few months before it makes its way back again [8|]

Gotta love old cars with character
