V-Power: Germany & back again...

I have just completed a mini (nine day) tour of Germany with my 993v. London (Channel Tunnel), > Calais > Munch > Rosenheim > Nussdorf am Inn > Tauberbischofsheim > Berlin > Hamburg > Koln > Calais > London. - Thought I would share some post venture thoughts:

How fast? - Do not speed in the Netherlands or France. I was stopped near Gent and the experience was to say the least profound. Two 4x4 Police cars and armed police officers who paraded about and negate communication. Apparently earlier in the year French police seized two Porsches and a Ferrari (for doing 240kmph) and sent the owners home on foot. They auctioned the vehicles and the money went to French Customs, yes I know, not even a good cause.

V-Power: "" Tricky one really & not sure where to start. I am not the very brightest kid on the block, but even I noticed the difference. The whole car felt different. I used to think the engines orchestra on my car was beautiful before, but the sound track on receipt of this fuel. "" I remain speechless"¦ & now in much state of longing"¦ Worth every Euro: Having said that I have no idea how much that stuff costs but, I wait in anticipation for it's arrival in the UK.

Culture: - Driving in Germany is beautiful. I have often driven from London to Oxford where you'll find numerous signs darted about informing you that "tiredness kills". In Germany I don't think I ever travelled over ten miles without seeing a "P" stop with toilets, picnic benches and separate parking spots for lorries and cars, or Services Stations with everything a small village could wish for bar a post office, but to be fair I didn't really need one of those. We have so much to learn in the UK...

Watch out for: "NL" & "B" drivers"¦ they travel no more than 2kmph faster than the vehicle in front and pull out, then indicate and then look behind them - 50 meters short of 'over taking' their target. Primary cause of "STAU" "" "˜traffic jams'"¦ Less of them on the roads between Sundays and Thrusdays.

For anyone thinking about a German/ European drive, I can only strongly recommend it. - I have never been 'all right', but having done this trip, I will never be the same...
& as for my 993v, not a beat out of place, not a foot wrong. Danke Porsche...

I've been driving regularly to Bavaria (about 5 miles away from Nussdorf) since I got my licence in 1967. Never fails to amaze me how far and how fast one can travel!
NL & B - couldn't agree more. Useless and selfish to a man (or woman)
Good progress at weekends = no German goods traffic
Beware headlights in rear view mirror - always someone going faster than you think!

V power, one just south of Koln before the run down and onto the de-restricted A1 to the Ring [;)]

10 days and counting

Pete, Nussdorf is great. There is a run up and then down the mountain (obviously with bends) that is very popular with bikers in this area. I did it with my friend who lives there and we passed two 356's (one red and the other black) & another 993. There are so many beautiful examples of Porsche in this area and all very friendly & appreciative owners too. - The overall attitude to Porsche ownership in DE is inspiring"¦

Since 1967!? I wasn't even born then... I go to Germany often, many friends there hence the excursion I recently took; although this was the first time I have ever driven off our Green Isle - it will certainly not the last...

[:D]Hehehe - had to laugh about the Belgian drivers. It's just SO true!! I heard that until a few years ago there were no requirements for Belgian drivers to actually pass a road test, i. e. it's hardly surprising that their driving style is - well - a bit different.

Not sure about the Dutch but perhaps they prefer cycling to driving [&:]

Thanks for sharing Edel.

V-Power sounds great, is it the same as Optimax?

It will be soon :) - This is from Shell:

Wednesday 23rd August is a very special day for Shell Retail in the UK - as we will formally announce the launch of a new performance fuel into the UK market place - Shell V-Power. Shell V-Power, which succeeds the highly successful Shell Optimax brand, will further confirm our leadership in quality fuels and help establish our claim to be the No1. fuels retailer in the world.

See Formula One in SE1!
To mark the day, a live motor sport event will be held on Belvedere Rd., right outside Shell Centre, where we will be joined by Ferrari Formula One driver Felipe Massa, Ducati MotoGP rider Loris Capirossi and World Super bike rider Troy Bayliss.

There will also be on-street interviews with the stars, car and bike stunts, and a cavalcade of some of the world's most historic Ferrari's. The event will commence at 10:00am and is likely to conclude at 11:20. The event is open to the public, so arrive early to get the best views.

In order to facilitate the event, Belvedere Rd. and Chicheley St. will be closed to traffic between 5:00am - 12:00pm on the day
