V8 diesel

I am very close to buying one of these as my daily car, just waiting for the present owners Car to arrive, after spending a day with one of these cars I have been so impressed but value others opinion please.

Firstly I admit I prefer diesel to petrol as my last 7 cars have been diesel engined.

My current Cayenne S Diesel has the 4.2 V8 and says it has averaged 31.9mpg over 2600 miles, all with a 0 - 62 of 5.7 seconds. The engine has loads of power and sounds great, the difference from petrol is the diesel notice at the filler cap and far less visits to filling stations.

Best diesel in the best SUV, what more could you ask for.[:D]

17 months in and still awesome!

Did have it on the market for a month as they were selling for new prices even after a year. But missed it so much that I took it off the market again.

Top must haves are air suspension, dynamic cruise and pano sunroof...

I have now driven all the Range Rover equivalents and while very posh and have presence, the quality of construction is nothing like Porsche. Also the reliability and performance don't cut the mustard. I asked tons of owners they all said the same reliability is crap.
I just can't wait for the date of change .

Little update, really really enjoying my V8 diesel, TBH it's as fast as I need in everyday life, sounds amazing so many bystanders stare and look. Few cars on UK road sound as good as a this 4x4 , strikes me odd that Porsches best selling car has the quietist group on this forum.
I have to question whether I really need any other car in my garage anymore so good an all-rounder is the cayenne .

Like you Martin I found this Cayenne forum very quiet having come from a Range Rover forum.

Maybe it is because they had more problems and many spent money adding or changing their Range Rovers to look different, while Cayenne owners are happy with their choice.

This thread is no good without ... pictures [:D]

Interesting that you get 32mpg in the V8 - my V6 only gives a few more than that, maybe 35mpg for general running around.

Sorry here is a quick pic of both cars ,

I have not seen less than 29.4 on the V8 yet in 2 weeks and generally running at >30 MPG pretty dam good for a 2 ton car and 400 BHP, even see 39 on a run

Are all Kn S diesels V8's ?
I think you will find only the Diesel S is the V8 .
I honestly feel I have found the best all round Porsche carry 5 people , drive on snow, sounds fab, 0-60 in mid 5's and over 160 mph and if not stupid 35 mpg ........o and looks cool

After looking at the various pros and cons I have decided to go for the Hybrid. Seems like you get the best of both worlds and as it is a company car very tax efficient and saving me a big chunk against the buying price. Any views guys. Whilst I know this will not be every ones cup of tea seems to make good economic sense.

Hi all, have had my Cayenne v6 diesel now about 18 months and have covered about 25k miles. I had x5 prior but really the Cayenne is something else , better in every department. The s was not available at the time or i would have bought it. Air suspension, tailgate lift are a must, 21 inch wheels and body kit makes the car look great. Fuel economy is great 33-39 mpg.

The new hybrid seems a great car , tbh I don't notice any issues at all with non air and 20" wheels , certainly compliant enough for me, maybe with 21" I would.

I still. Feel the latest rounds of hybrids will depreciate too fast .........only because technology is moving so fast and there will be a better version very soon. Maybe within 2-5 years technology will slow and prices will stabilise

I think we will all be driving " Hydrogen" before much longer .
That is if the Oil lobby allows it .
The cars and specs shown in Geneva this year were an eye opener .
I expect more progress to have been made and appear at the Paris show next month .

One thing for sure within 10 years there are going to be a lot of big engined cars about going cheap. New technology will change our driving experience forever. I doubt anything I own today will be worth much in 10 years.

Just ordered new diesel, as family car. Replacing my X5 m50d which I love, so hoping new cayenne as good as expected.

Tried the range rover as others have, but was not a fan, plus seem to be everywhere. Wanted something practical for family time, wife, two boys and a dog, but that still felt pleasing to drive. Would have stuck with the new M50 d but it rolls in corners more than outgoing model and I prefer the styling on the old model.

Went with 21 " wheels, arch extensions, pano roof, black with chrome finish. Will stick a pic on when it gets here in October. I'm keeping my fingers crossed I like it as much as my X5!

I too test drove the x5 and just felt it was wooly, have to say so far I can't see I made a wrong decision, construction in a different league ,plus also I Like my big car handling like a Sporty car . Big bonus for me is dealer support, I was really getting fed up with BMW .
