Vacuum hose.

Hello again, newbie Daz again.
Regarding the vacuum hose. Where the hell is it? My vacuum gauge on the dash does work, but only when you floor it, which to me sugests an air leak. But i cant seem to locate the culprit, unless it's that big one coming of the intake manifold. And if it is i think i'll be leaving well alone 'cos that looks a bitch to change.
Any pointers greatfully received. Cheers guys.

The vacuum line that provides the signal to the in-dash gauge is easy to spot. It is the only one that is clear - all the others are black. You can locate it at the rear of the engine and it goes through the bulkhead and into the ECU under the floor in the passenger footwell. It plugs directly into a transducer on the DME (I think) which then converts the pressure signal to an electric voltage do drive the gauge. When I removed the line from the DME I remeber being very unimpressed by the connection - I didnt't think it was very robust and making a good seal. I'm not experienceing any problems with it so have put my concerns to the back of my mind but if I was increasing my boost much more than it currently is I'd consider other ways of connecting this line to the DME. Having said all that I've not heard of anyone having any specific problems with that connection so I'm probably being paranoid.

Beaky hisses like a bucket of snakes on boost, but as I have MAP instead of an air flow meter it doesn't make any difference. [:)]

While the above is all correct for a Turbo, I seem to recall from another post that Daz has an '82 car which is therefore a Lux. I further understand (not having any direct personal Lux experience) from a post Rick made that the vacuum gauge (which I assume is the mpg meter?) is electronic, managed by the ECU based on the fuel injector cycle and isn't actually a vacuum gauge at all. I think therefore, that there will be no white tube from the manifold for Daz to find - though I could be wrong as I have never had a 944 with the vacuum/mpg gauge and being a square dash car there may be a vacuum gauge that functions differently to how Rick described.

Well i've had a good poke about but can't seem to locate this clear hose. Fen's memory serves him well, it is indeed an '82. I've been through my haynes but there's not much of a reference to it. Can anyone shed a bit more light on this for me. Pictures or diagrams would be amazing, but just general info will get me started.
Does this clear hose actually come into the cockpit, ie. the passenger footwell? Do i need to get the car on ramps or not?
It's not amazingly imporant or owt, but it would be nice to have the thing working properly. So if you've a spare couple of minutes to help me i'd greatly appreciate it.

I'll go out again this evening to have another look.

Take a look on Rick's site www.cannell.co.uk under manuals and get the real ones downloaded. The Haynes book of lies is useless for the 944.
