Any chance of some photos - to pmjt@mac.com - my missus has never forgiven me for selling her silver Targa - sports or standard seats? Any other options? Sports chassis?

in view of what is going around I've seen a fair few N's on at 26-28k tops, but I guess that depends on if the plate is included...... but privately sub 30 for sure, prices are not that strong, so no idea what I'll get for mine when I come to sell......!

"dry use only" now that is being silly, am I to assume the car is located overseas ???

I studied prices for over 1 year and produced a little price modeller for myslef to aid shortlisting ( now commited to a 993 C2S ).

My model indicates - according to your description that fair value is £28.4k for a private sale. Around 2.5k less to a dealer - for what is worth.

Guys.

Thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.

Depreciation is a concern, but obviously only when you sell, I've got it in mind to make the 997 a keeper, I think it may well be considered a classic in years to come. Of course I will probably end up kicking myself when the 998(?) is launched!

PMJT, I haven't actually decided to sell yet, but I'll email you some pics anyway. I'm not too sure about options, I don't think it has a sports chassis, how do I tell? And what's the difference between sports and standard seats? As far as I know it's a standard Targa with no mods, although I was told the Targa had a few goodies as standard, not sure what these are though. The only thing I have changed is the CD/Radio, the original Sony couldn't be repaired, so I replaced it with a Porsche branded Becker head unit.

I bought the p/plate recently at a DVLA auction, it wasn't cheap and I'll probably keep it, though I'm always open to offers.

I must admit to being guilty of pampering this car, I've never taken it out in the wet, it even lives in a dehumidified garage, as like me, it's getting on a bit, so I decided that like me, it probably needed extra care & attention in order keep it in tiptop condition. Surely I'm not the only one who thinks like this?

Isn't it early days to be talking about classic status for 997s ? I would have thought that they will be produced in similar quantities to the 996, (as it is basically the same mass produced car) so I would have thought you would be waiting forever for prices to increase.

Best to buy a car to enjoy.

I'm not suggesting it's already a classic, but based on the excellent reviews the 997 has received from the motoring press, I think it may well worth keeping the car much longer than the usual 2 or 3 years. Keeping the car for as long as you can extend the Porsche warranty will give you peace of mind motoring and will lessen the effect of depreciation when this is factored into the cost of ownership over a longer period. My gut feel is that the 997 will not suffer the same nosedive in values that early 996's have suffered. The next generation of 911 has a hard act to follow, three or four years away, it's likely to cost in the region of £80k, it's going to have to be a hell of lot better than the 997 for that sort of money, and with good 993's becoming increasingly rare, the average guy wanting to get into modern Porsche ownership without taking out a second mortgage, will look to the 997

Hmm maybe you're right - the 997 is certainly a lot more attractive than the 996 in my humble opinion and therefore has more chance of retaining its value long term.

All the appreciating classics I know of look beautiful. DB5, E-Type, XK120, early 911, Ferrari Dino, Merc gull wing etc. I think the 997 has a better chance than the 996 of joining their hallowed ranks.

The trouble is most of the cars I have listed are also very rare, (not to mention over 40 years old) which also adds to their value. I am not saying the 997 will never be a "classic", I just think it will be a long wait.
