I think I am in the right section and hope someone can advise me.

I am a member of the R14 region and I am looking to buy a 911 Carerra 3.2 Convertable, 1984 with milage of 88K.

The car is local to me and was originaly white but its been sparayed black but the underside of bonnet and inside doors is still white, so I will need to do a respray to get it back to the white. It as a new hood and a new exhaust.

The owner tells me its only been used on dry days and only done a few 100 miles the last 2 years.

Now comes the difficult bit how much is it worth or what should I pay for it ??
 


Not easy to answer without seeing the car and the history etc.

Look at as many as possible of this model type and similar year etc and follow the prices. Get a feel for the market.

My first impression would be from your description is that the the car has not had the best of homes.

ie the incomplete re-spray.

However when and if you find one you like (even if its gleaming) would be to get a PPI done by someone who knows Porsche.

It is impossible to put a value on the car but one thing is for sure, it won't be anywhere near the value of an unmolested example, or one that has had a proper re-spray for that matter. Furthermore, the incomplete respray would make me very suspicious of the rest of the cars history, if it has one.
 
As has been said be very wary of a partial re-spray "" ask for details (photo records) of re-spray (before and after) if none it still could be ok but would need a full inspection.
Value "" prices are going up
A poor example with MOT needing work around £6000 to £10,000 (but you could easily spend 10K on bodywork and 6K on engine)
A very good example circa 100,000 thousand miles, full history, matching numbers, body rust free and very good paintwork (beware recently re-sprayed ones), new hood, good interior, regular servicing, top end engine overhaul and new clutch around 16 to 18K
A first class one perhaps around 20K

Preferably go for a late 80's model as they have a better gearbox

In any case have an inspection by a Porsche specialist it could save you a lot of heartache and money

There are somevery good specimens in the market place,look in the PP,or a reputable dealer.
As for the one in question it does not smell right.
 
I would echo all the previous comments. If you are thinking of a respray, it could well cost in the region of £3000. If they find significant rust in the process, you could easily double that. At 90k, an early 3.2 engine may well be on the verge of needing a top end rebuild, so check to see if there is any history of engine work. IMO the car would have to be very cheap for me to take it on. Definitely get a PPI done if you are still tempted.
 
Is this the car that was featured in 911 World a while back, had to be resprayed due to the female owner being stalked (IIRC)
 
Thank you for all your comments and I think I will carry on looking for a late 1980's with the G50 box. Might go and see it on the weekend and chat to some of the R14 members at our last blast on Sunday to see if they know anything about the car.
