Value for Insurance purposes

With all the recent talk of 964 prices increasing by quite large amounts over the past couple of years particularly, just wondering what price your cars are insured for? And who did you get to value your cars?

I got a valuation from the Porsche club last year, it came in around £20K

My cars in well above average condition, the body works great, engines had a top end rebuild, has a full service history, I've owned it nearly 8 years now and in that time I've done around 10,000 miles, it's done just short of 110K in total, the fact that it's lived in a heated garage, rarely gets wet unless it's being washed and has never seen a wet winter road under my ownership probably explains why it's in such good condition.

I'm starting to doubt now that if my car was damaged and a total loss that I'd be able to replace it with one as good for 20K, it's a C2 manual.

I think you're probably right, and should get a revised valuation as prices have shot up over the last year. It's a two-fold problem, as values have risen overall, and there are less good cars available.

I guess the problem is that there will be the inevitable bursting of the bubble, and with interest rates set to creep up that panic might be coming pretty soon. Will people be rushing to re-value their cars when the values are dropping? [&:]

I have a similar car. Revalued by John Glynn recently at £32k for insurance purposes. Well worth the £35 to get him to do it. You will get something back in a few days.

Save the £35 and get the free Club valuation. Not as fast, but as I understand it you're covered as soon as the application is sent in, so no worries there.

Thanks guys for your replies, I've just read about valuations by John, I'd be surprised if the club valuation increased by over 50% in 12 months TBH I thought it was a bit too low at the time and £35 seems like a small price to pay for peace of mind.

How do you go about getting a club valuation?? I am in same boat with my targa. Also immaculate (nearly concours) new leather, carpets new, new 993 turbo brakes, cup wheels and mirrors, new suspension, power coated everything!!, new engine tin, bills for over 15k spent!!!

I contacted John Glynn today, gave him details of the service history and major work done along with some recent pictures, he agreed that there's no way I could replace my car like for like with the value agreed at the moment, my new valuation is £33,000, a very speedy service from John, if anyone else wants a realistic valuation his fees were £35 and he can be contacted at john@johndglynn.com

Where the form says:

"I have enclosed recent photographs (not scanned images)..."

Presumably you can e-mail the form & attach images to the e-mail?

You have to do it the old fashioned way and post everything. I opened a truprint account, uploaded my images and paid for photos to be sent to me which I then posted off with the form.

Like everyone else, my valuation (£19,000) is out of date even though it's only just over a year old.
