Valve covers

Anyone have any cautionary tales of these?

My engine is planned for a rebuild because oil leaks from just about everything.

I am thinking billet covers mainly to satisfy my inner magpie (so bling not substance).

I could of course just wait for new gaskets to be fitted and have the existing covers re finished and cross my fingers.............................

I have the billets on mine (just the lower ones as the upper were fine). Mine had to be machined down because the gasket channels were too deep which prevented the gaskets from sealing properly. Now that's done they work fine.

I had some fitted 5 years ago sourced from another company. Fitted fine and no leaks. The stock ones can flex after time, the billet ones never will. Adds a few grams to the weight but worth doing. Also, some of the stock ones were known to be porous and again the billet ones don't suffer that.

As always. I appreciate the replies.

I am of the opinion that whilst this engine is out and being done I will try to get as many improvements and refurbishments done to it as I can afford to. It just looks easier to do stuff with the engine on a bench than in the car.

Fortunately, (or not depending on how you look at it) the clutch went 5 thousand miles after I bought the car and whilst the clutch was replaced I discovered the joy of rusted engine tinware( to the tune of nearly a grand). So engine tinware is not likely to be a major expense and I am hopeful the clutch will be ok (it having been done 10k miles ago)

On my list and planned for in my budget is:

Full engine rebuild.
Oil lines as needed.
Fuel lines.
Refurb alternator and starter.
Fuel injector clean/refurb.
Ignition lead replacement (current ones are originals)

I am hoping to have a photo record and to try to do a blog.

But first I will try to enjoy the car a bit. I have owned it since 2005 but it has been SORN for the last 3 years. It has come to the point of use it or sell it.
I didn't think I would get much for an unMOT'd 964 in need of a engine rebuild.................
