Vapour purge delete

On the basis the vapour purge system is of little use or effectiveness and I don't like the idea of having any extra plumbing under the bonnet than necessary I fancy removing the vapour purge system. My query is what is the best way to block off the vacuum lines that are connected to it? I guess it's a simple case of just removing all the plumbing and the components in the system including the cannister inside the passenger side wheel arch??
 
I've deleted it and connected up the two large hoses left over to "complete the circuit". now either i've done something mindblowingly dumb, or i have a different problem, but after a while, i got a constant petrol smell. I'll be putting it back on temoprarily over the weeknd to rule out any wrongdoing, but IMHO, not worth it....
