hi ive just joined on here and own 2 944 lux's in white.

Just could do with help with a few problems i have with them.

first problem is my 86 944 has a problem with the speedo is not work it has the oval dash but has a spaure dash gearbox fitted i believe one the spaure is cable and the oval is electical, does anyone no how i would get round this without changing the box or is it just going to easier to get the right box for it,

i am also looking at a set of bilstein shocks and the are off a 924 s will they fit my 86 model or not,

thanks for your help also are there any meets going on in the midlands thanks Tom

The square dash cars have a mechanical take-off for the speedo on the front wheel hub. The oval dash cars have an electrical take-off from the gearbox, so you need to either fit the earlier wheel hubs and then a square dashboard or change the gearbox to a later type [&o] I've not heard of a way to make an early gearbox drive the speedo for an oval dash car, but that doesn't mean it can't be done [&:]

Hi and welcome
I agree with Paul, except I am doubtful if it can be done. Possibly bymounting a early mechanical speedo out of the way and using the output to the mpg meter?
I'd change the gesrbox.
As for the shocks, the rears may fit, but I dont think the fronts will. I know the part nos are different for the aluminum wishbone cars.

hi guys thanks for the replies looks like ill just have to source a book, need a cheap set of coilovers do you no where i can get any from, also forgot to mention my lights have just packed up working they still pop up but the driving lights dont work all the other lights are fine, fuse's seem ok. thats on the 84 one,

also are there any meets in the midlands or track days thanks

Hi Tom
Try P H Sportscars in Shardlow nr Derby for the box.
On the early cars (mines an '83) one of the switchees on the centre console works them in conjunction with the dip/main beam, symbol may have been worn off, that was my problem.
7 March going to Support Donnington rally with club but sure you could tag along!
Where abouts are you? - Im in Leicester.

Hi mike i am in derby myself yeah i will give them a ring do they specialise in porsche's do they? yeah sounds alright wat sort of time will everyone be gettin there is the a thread on this thanks Tom

You may be able to adapt the existing transaxle. If you take the car to PH theyll be able to tell you. If not then you can use a hall effect sensor to drive the speedo.

Porsche and MX5s do know their stuff and are very reasonably priced.
Will let you know re meeting time.
NB if you're interested in the Club, we meet 1st monday each month (next monday 1st March) not far from there - Coopers Arms at Weston-on-Trent.
I'll be there if you fancy it
Mike
